Cream Legbar Hybrid Thread

I don't think autosexing unless the Marans was a cuckoo. JMO

I think Black Copper Marans (any black Rooster) over a CCL (barred hen) will produce a sex link. Girls all black and boys will have a white spot. At least that's what I've seen in the past. Doesn't work when the Roo is a CCL and the hen is a BCM.

I'm not sure about the Welsummer since they are somewhat autosexing to start with. I'll let you know when my Wesummers crosses hatch out. I'm very lucky to have a roo that was born almost totally grey and had a white spot the size of a dime on his head and no eyeliner. All his offspring with other CCL have been easily sexed at day one so I'm hoping the trait will carry over with the Welsummer mixes

Just curious as a genetic newbie, that if that is the case, why do female Legbars and some chicks from my other crosses do not have the white spot?

4 of the 5 chicks of my Barnevelder crosses did not have a white spot. Fifth one only had a faint one.
Some of my EE crosses have a yellow V on their head surrounded by a darker yellow eye pattern
Some Australorp only have a faint spot, others big white spot.
None of the Brahma crosses have a white spot I believe.

Here are some pics of Australorp hybrids.

Here is the cross with Wheaten EE

Here is the cross with a Light Brahma. Other chicks are light, this one is different. Too much Legbar in this one!

Is the male in your matings the Cream legbar over the other breed females?

I think it also has to do with the fether pattern of the female used. Like my laced females crossed to my legbar male have more of a chipmunk pattern and only sometimes a very faint head spot though not always.

I believe that your CL X Light Brahma are sexlinked, Red Sexlinks. I might be wrong though. If so that chick above looks like a pullet to me. Do you have pics of other chicks from that same cross that hatched?

Yes I think the Brahma chick is a pullet and would be very interesting to follow. I am not keeping her but a friend will brood her and keep me posted with his/her pics.

I will post pics of other Brahmas Xs. They are all very different. 4 from 1 hen and 1 from the other. Will have to check if I banded them accordingly and will post pics.

autosexing continues through multiple generations - sex link applies to just that one hybrid pair. Subsequent generatioins of sex link -- usually aren't sex links...such as black star and golden comet. :O)(

Too cute ! That's how my Brahma X looks except she has a very defined black point on her head... (Or his)

Do you have a pic of this chick?

It was marked "B"... The eggs you sent me were marked "B" for Brahma, "A" for Australorp and the Barnevelders were unmarked. They didn't have any other letters on them.
Oh ok! I usually sub-mark them with their names as S for Sleepy and C fo Cutie. Cutie had a darker shelled egged than Sleepy's. You could really tell them apart. Too late now, I must not have thought it would be important to differentiate.
