Cream Legbars

I keep trying to get a photo that shows the salmon on the breast of the male as he matures..... I haven't succeeded, but I will keep trying. I have seen it on other's photos...and it is interesting because it all disappears as the boys mature from my limited experience...there is no salmon left---but there is a tint when they are little tikes.

Here is a pict today of 'Heart'. His white head spot as a chick was --- you guessed it --- shaped like a heart.

Interesting thing about him is that he does show some nice body-length and is feathering in on the breast very light colored---can you discern the tinge of salmon. I'll keep trying to capture it.

He is however a little guy with a slanted comb -- it starts on the left side of his beak and then ends more toward the right side of the back of his head. As a consequence he has quite a bushy crest.... like Liberache. (did I spell that right?) Anyway he is quite the energetic little guy. I tell him he has his mother's eyes. Lol.

ETA if you click on the pict, it will enlarge.
Found this picture on the internet:

It shows a light male, and I can see the salmon on the male breast feathers, that completely goes away in the adult IMO. What is also interesting about this pict. is that the beak is very pale, and the comb is pale.... So it could be a big influence of exposure/lighting...but shows what my eye picks up as a rosy tint to the front. I don't think I ever had such light/pale colored beaks in any of the clbs that were hatched here...at any point in their life. Anyone else get beaks that light?

ETA == BTW, some of our pictures are showing up there if you follow this link down the page...

GaryDean26's hen from the online poultry show contest, farther down a picture of Robin that I put in that contest... these search engines put up images by the number of hits I think...so the order they appear are how often they are viewed. does this mean it's time to watermark your pictures?

it is dynamic so the order will change frequently.... and as someone has pointed out -- not all the answers to this link ARE cream legbars...... but the breed is certainly returning more hits than it did awhile back.

We are finally Crested Cream Legbar owners! Here are my babies I picked up yesterday. The kids named them Blue and Lucy :) They are so friendly and love to be petted and cuddled. I love their teeny little barred grey crests.

Nice Work!

You are doing a lot of things right. It will be intresting to see how your flock turns out.

They are adorable, and I'm in love. Looks like your female is showing a lot of cream in the hackle area already. Congratulations!!

Nice... but she is not crested...?
Hi, yes not all Cream Legbars are crested. My rooster is crested and the hens are not. The babies typically hatch out half and half. I have a few juvie crested going into the breeding pen in Jan. but I personally like the non-crested CLs

I think that nicalandia was refering to the non-cresting being non-standard. Just like a pullet with out barring, or who layed white eggs, or who had white feathers in her wings would be non-stand.

A few of the pullets I have been growing out this year haven't shown to have much of a crest. Going forward I will not be breeding any of the non-crested hens. they will all be going to laying flocks only.

I'm not breeding my chickens, and like Deann, i rather like the non-crested look -- so all's well here.

Ya...the Marans standard is for feathered legs. Lot of people that just want great layers can get clean legged Marans at better prices and actually prefered the non-feathered legs (they keep cleaner). I think that we will see the same thing in the Legbars. Non-crested legbars will find great homes in laying flocks.

My understanding is that they change the colors periodically but if you call and tell them when you got your birds they MAY be able to tell you which color the lines were at that time.
