Crochet "Chat"

How do you secure the ring?
I don't know if I do it "right" but I leave a long tail and crochet over the tail first. Then the whole reason for doing the magic loop is to minimize the center hole. So after I get a few rounds in, I pull the tail to tighten the hole, then tie it to one of the backside treads (as hidden as I can make it) in a small knot w/ a drop a fabric glue in the knot, weave a little and trim.

So I'm wondering if I just missed this one when weaving in the ends. Because I usually leave a long tail and work the next round over the tail. Then weave back in the opposite direction. I wonder with all those squares if I didn't just say "done!" and started snipping off the extra tails without realizing. Oh geez! I suppose it really is better to weave in the ends as you go. Less to deal with later and maybe less mistakes? Thanks again!!!

I also leave a long end, pull tight, after crocheting over tail, then tie it off before weaving in the tail. I've not used glue but if you don't have a long tail to weave in that sounds like a good idea.

I reckon that's probably what happened. If you'd finished it off, that's a lot of 'working loose' and unravelling to have happened for no obvious reason. If your other centres seem secure, even more indication that that's what happened. You're lucky you noticed it before it was put to use.

I'd definitely finish each centre when each square is done.

Gluing is probably overkill, but I still glue every knot.

Where have ya'll been hiding all this time? I've been a byc'r for 4yrs and haven't found this fun corner of the forums? Holy moley, I've got some reading to catch up on!

I'd like to introduce myself: I'm a lifelong crochet addict - my grandmother could knit amazingly beautiful things - but sadly, when I knit, I'm too tight/tense/something - and the items do not come out as planned. Nor do my elbows appreciate all that tenseness (I actually gave myself tennis elbow from knitting a sweater!). So I crochet. And I embroider (hardanger is a passion). And I weave, although not so much this winter - I'm not inspired to at the moment. And I enjoy being creative and making life beautiful by making beautiful things.

Current project? A sweater vest from here:

www.redheart.com (called painted wool vest)

I enjoy using great fibers - and this is a fun variegated yarn which worked up beautifully for a crocheted hat from Crocheted One Skein Wonders book, although it took a skein and a half because it was an adult size not a toddler size....but hey, that's ok - I needed another fix at the yarn shop!
Great book, by the way, if you've not seen it lately. I found it at JoAnn Fabrics:

At any rate - nice to 'be' here and I look forward to being inspired and helping others too. Makes life more fun, doesn't it?

Welcome! This is a fun thread full of creative people. I have been crocheting since childhood--my German grandmother taught me and my sisters. I have recently picked up needle felting and spinning as well (yarns, not bikes)! Feel welcome and I can't wait to see your projects!
