Crochet "Chat"

Is no one crocheting this summer, or just not playing on BYC much? Thread is a tad slow lately. Hope no one minds me talking to myself, lol.

I finished the shawl and am on to other things. Here are pics of it (forgive the yellow background-my camera really messed with the intensity of it)

the link to the pattern for you: http://www.allfreecrochet.com/Shawls/Summer-Morning-Shawl-from-Bernat/ct/1

I may make it with a worsted weight yarn and larger hook soon, but did this lovely 12" block just because I thought it was beautiful and will welcome suggestions as to how to use it.

Your square and shawl are both very pretty.

The square could be made into a pillow w/ a pretty coordinating or contrasting backing fabric to show off the pretty lacing.

Hello,

I found this thread and was admiring all the beautiful work. I have crochet needles, and countless magazines (piled up somewhere for a long time) that teach how to crochet for beginners. I have not been able to learn how to crochet. Could any of you recommend a DVD or a step by step book with lots of pictures (for children maybe?) that would help me learn? I'd love to crochet. Just not too handy

Thank you!

I think I may have to play a youtube video over and over again to learn the steps. My internet access isn't the best here, so I lose a lot of bandwidth if I watch youtube. But I'll give it a try. Thanks for the tip

You might try and see if there is a crocheting group that meet in your area, like the quilting groups. Or a local senior citizens club may have experienced crocheters willing to help one on one.

You should be able to download the videos to your computer and then watch them over and over again.

Are there any yarn or craft stores near you where you could take a class to learn how to crochet?

I tried one club, but they were very advanced and not willing to teach me the very basics. Your idea of a senior citizen club should work. Never thought of that. Thanks!
