Crochet "Chat"

Sorry, it's been a while since I've checked back here! Sunny dawn is correct though. It's called a crocodile stitch and there should be tons of patterns describing it! It was a fun one to do.

I'm away for two weeks on an externship and having withdrawals. I have so much free time this weekend and didn't bring any crochet. Lately, I've delved into a lot of gloves and hats. I've been trying to build up stock in pony tail hats and headbands to sell on etsy. I also made a really awesome whale which I will post a picture of. I think he might be my favorite thing I've made so far! (Excuse the tv in the background...I was watching x files!) Also, the pattern is by OneDogWoof.

Could you tell what kind of stitch you used for the Seahawks beanie hat you made? I love it and want to make one. What is the logo made with and how did you attach it?
Thank
Amy

So my brother sent a box of yarn, but it smells. Can I wash it before I use it or should I just toss it?

To there is a "spool" of yarn/thread. Is it any good. He has more and wants to send it but it's heavy. Please Pm your answers.

Something like this.

I'm not sure how you could wash it still on the spool but you could definitely wash it after you make something with it. I'm interested to hear what others say!

What does it smell like? Are you sure it's the yarn itself and not just the spool (is it cardboard?). I agree that you couldn't wash it spooled like that. You could try sticking it in a sealed container with some bicarb or a couple of drops of nilodor in the bottom to see whether that did anything, but if it's the yarn itself you'd need to wash it after you'd done something with it.

I don't intend to use the yarn on the spool, but there are "Skeins" of yarn too and these I wondered how to clean without making something out of them. I have plenty of yarn already but he's old and is just being nice. I don't need more yarn and if you're into yarn you know what I mean.

What is the yarn on the Spool used for anyhow?

Can you pass it on to someone else? I stopped knitting when I couldn't wear wool any more and gave all my bits and pieces to a retirement home which had placed an ad looking for donations to make things for their fund-raising stalls.

Those spools can be used with knitting machines.

I've heard you can knot up a skein of yarn in stockings and wash like normal. As long as the skein is contained enough so that it does not unravel or tangle. I haven't tried it, but it seems like it would work.

I wouldn't wash anything that is wool either in a washing machine. You could also just try soaking the smelly yarn in some warm water with fabric softener and maybe some baking soda and see if that makes a difference
