I named them all "b" names since so many towns and counties in MT start with b.
I have 20 eggs I brought back from an early Thanksgiving in Montana, they are due on the 5th of Dec.

You don't have to name your eggs, or draw faces, I do enjoy doing this though because when they hatch, even if I cannot tell chicks apart, I can tell who hatched.

There lives an artist in you... ☺️

Curious question, did you do this before? And did the eggs hatch well?

I ask this because I have learned not to draw with a permanent marker on hatch eggs because some of the ink will be absorbed... And now I'm curious if this fact is correct or overprotective... I mark my eggs with other means or the tiniest dot's because of this rule... Maybe I can relax with future hatches...

I do this with about every hatch. most of the time I only write on them after I know they are started/developed for 3 days and remove clears.
I have hatched many this year, I think success has to do with where i get eggs.
I usually get my eggs from feed store fridge. Depending on which farm they come from, some hatch better than others. I do not believe it had anything to do with ink.
I have also had eggs shipped that were marked, from farms from another state.

These hatched 17/24 once again i do not think it was the ink. probably just the shipping.

below is one of my last hatch-

Below is a pic of the ten, plus 2 older chicks that were from the batch before them, (to help raise them.) hard to get everyone in the shot.

I never set under 6 eggs, then I will always have extras, this batch that hatched out 10.
I have a halloween hatch that hatched 11, I had power out for a overnight, and the eggs were cold when found, but they still eventually hatched. Even with ink.

I have been hatching for over 30 years.

Thank you for your lengthy explanation and for the pictures.. It must be an old wives tale old folk legend than... Thank you for clarifying! love the faces and evenmore the young chicks.. The big ones already get their feathers.... 💛 😍

With it I mean the "not allowed to put ink on eggs story.. And in Dutch we say bakerpraatje. Which litterally means the things people say to a pregnant woman, which are sometimes very convincing however rarely true... like if you want to drink orange juice in the morning, you will get a girl)

Google translates this in old wives tale however I don't know if this is correct ☺️

Good luck with you all B's hatchalong :celebrate
