Dixie Chicks

Have you had her vision checked.  Just to rule out issues there?

we actually did do that not to long after we got her since she was so spooky and it seemed like everything came up on her at the last minute even though she should have been able to see it for quite a while. I had a equine specialist we use check her over for anything and everything, even ran blood work on her. She's just a hot headed nut. It's just odd she isn't that way all the time. She's always been hot but after we worked with her for the first year or so she actually seemed to think things out before going absolutely nutso over them. I will admit this is a huge improvement over the horse I brought him who was terrified of her very own shadow. Even scared of other minis. I just wish when she decides to have these stupid moments that it wasn't always my chin and jaw that's involved. My bottom lip was bloodied, had to check to make sure I still has all my teeth, and the flashlight went flying and broke.

Took her halter off after bringing her back to her stall in the barn and she immediately rears up and busts me in the chin with her head. Then proceeds to run to the back of her stall and slam herself into the wall like I'm killing her. I take this mare to shows and she does wonderfully but at home she has these horrible days like this. For the rest of the night she would cower and run from me. Never have I done anything to make this horse run from me. I do believe the guy that auctioned her was rough on her. I'm wondering if she has flashbacks to him?
Sounds like a little kid, one of my kids, probably has ADD an OCD, you need to beat her more.
Just kidding, I bet your right, probably has had bad experiences in her life, like a foster child from a bad family. Not that I personally know anything about horses, but I read lots. They say horses have great memories, give her some time IMHO, keep treating her right and good and she might turn out alright. Horses are not like a bad mean rooster that you have to cull to keep that trait out of your flock, they learn.

Is this your Tempe/Tempest? It does sound like she went through some bad things... maybe she was beat being put up in a stall/barn? And she knows she is trapped and that's when it triggers? Just guessing here... sorry she clobbered you...

I dunno... Each horse is their own unique pile of trouble.

My baby sister has one, he at some point went blind in one eye, but we do not know when or how or why.

He is perfect as long as you do everything PERFECTLY. If you do anything "wrong" he has a fit.

She has kept him, and likes him, since he is a great training horse. If you have the wrong seat, or do anything else not perfect, he makes sure that you KNOW immediately.

Mini... Maybe your horse is the same way.... (Actually, you said mini... Whatever)

Maybe you are supposed to take the halter off of the ears first, or left ear then right ear, etc. who knows what that horse has in its head. But when you do the "wrong" sequence, an explosion happens.

Just a guess.

I used to have a few horses, and one was hot.... But in a very predictable way, no surprises.

Actually, I was going to post that last night, but for some reason I didn't submit the pic.

We had one kit inside to feed it a bit, it looked like it had missed a couple of feedings. Karin googled some sort of rabbit milk substitute recipes, so it got some cream, honey, yolk and electrolytes. I hope it doesn't upset it's tummy too much. I don't think we'll be feeding it anymore, but if it just had missed out on feeding time by mistake we thought we would try and give it a fighting chance. I guess we'll see today how it's looking, but it's possible we'll only have 7 kits soon. The others looked pretty strong though.

*Edit*
Oh, that wasn't actually the one we had inside. Here's the patient.
