I actually believe the Red Rangers alone are good for that. The crosses I do with the Red Rangers are out of Curiosity. After I see how they turn out I might come up with a breeding plan to make my version of a meat bird. Still have a lot to learn before I get there.

Sounds exciting! Genetics are crazy complicated but so interesting. I personally have a fascination with the frizzle gene and would like to eventually do some breeding research with that

I never said they were different breeds, I just said I bred them to a different pattern because that pattern has darker eggs.
Well, it would help if you laid out the cross.
So was a pure Cuckoo Marans crossed with a Cuckoo/BCM cross to get the 1/4 BCM?
Darkness of eggs can depend on line of either variety.

I have seen the eggs in both lines of both varieties, I made my choice based on the egg color of the lines. I don't feel the need to fully explain this when someone only asked what I hatched.

It sounds very interesting either way! Maybe you can make a thread about it? Would love to follow along and I’m sure others would too!

thats a complicated project that was involving an Americuna that I later found to not have the correct genetics with the Blue egg genes. Like most of my projects I abandon them when I get deeper into genetics and realize I do not have the space for them. Now I am just trying to get dark egg laying hens with a cuckoo pattern and make boring dark brown egg black sex links. I was going for Olive Eggers but it is far above my pay grade. This is just a learning experience for me because my day job is my nursery and chickens just supplement it by being my composters.

Still sounds like fun! Hope you get the results you want from this project :)

Misting and cooling the kids today! It’s currently day 20 and tomorrow is the next weighing and candling for everyone. Let’s see what they say!

As you might be able to tell in the background, in already prepating a little hatch-assist kit for anyone that makes it to term and needs help getting out. Some different tweezers and a set of screw driver heads. Also have a pocket knife that I’ve been practicing with on regular eggs and number 8 when I took it out. Let’s hope I’ll actyally get to use it because I’m so afraid of everyone dying before it’s hatch day :(
Let’s stay positive and give lots of loving thoughts to these little babies!

Sending all my positive vibes, thoughts, prayers or what ever you call it.

Is there a reason for misting and cooling? I have never heard of that or knew it was something that might be beneficial.
