Duck Incubation time.. (first timers)

Pics
I have no idea how people get great pictures of candling.. trying to take a picture with my phone and holding egg and flashlight in hand is almost impossible. I tried my best for the pictures.. From what I can tell there seems three colors in the egg, the white, a yellow and then the darker-red vein area.

It looks like you're candling through the bottom in these pictures. You actually want to candle through the top, the end where the air cell is - the fat end, the end that's up in the turners. You can see the veining and air cells much better that way :)

Another option on air cells is to trace them with pencil, then just take a picture in normal light of the whole egg. Then folks can see the relative size of the air cells. :)

X2 :)

I would like to join... I just put 12 eggs from my girls in on Wednesday Jan 31st. I have 3 magpies, 2 khaki Campbell, and 2 runner females in with 1 magpie and 1 khaki male so if they are fertile it should be a good mix. this is my first time incubating duck eggs, I have successfully hatched both chicken and turkey eggs as recently as the 21st of January. I am running a Brinsea Ovation 56ex with the humidity pump, currently I have the humidity set at 45%. I will be adding some Dark brown chicken eggs this next Wednesday so that they all hatch at the same time when I add the chicken eggs I will drop the humidity to 35% and then keep an eye on the air cell.

How exciting!

I'm so jealous of your Brinsea! How many hatches have you done in it? Do you love it??

Good luck with your hatch!!

I bought my brinsea in Aug 2017 and I have run 5 batches in it. I love the way it holds the temp steady and the humidity pump is awesome!
My last batch that hatched on Jan 21st was the first time I had used it for hatching,,,,.... I did struggle a little to keep the humidity high enough.
I will be making a modification for this next hatch, I plan to use hardware cloth, covered by holly shelf liner, to form a "hatching tray" that will be off the floor of the bator by 1/2 inch or so. Just enough that when I "flood" the floor of the bator to get the humidity up I don't have to worry about getting the eggs wet. I hope this will also prevent the little suckers from going swimming in the humidity wells..... chicks are so ungraceful when they are first hatched.
All in all I have enjoyed it very much. My old bator was a cheap Chinese knock off that I had to constantly babysit for temp and humidity. I work full time I don't have time for that. I have had Much better hatches since using the brinsea.

Trying more pictures these dont look right to me, looks like the air sac is on the pointy end of the eggs, and are not small at all. Two of them look like the last pic where the clear goes all the way from one end to the other. @Pyxis @WVduckchick @casportpony

That's not the air cell, just space that the embryo hasn't developed into yet. I can actually see the outline of the air cell in the fat end in that last picture :)
