I recently got a weird looking egg from one of my button quail hens. It's blotchy in color, and I thought at first it was dusty. I tried to wipe it off, but the blueish whitish color remained. Her eggs are usually the reddish tan color you can see between the blotches in the picture. Does this indicate any disease? I keep my quail indoors and in 20 gal vented aquariums. They do have access to oyster she'll at their choosing.

I have coturnix and they lay the brown spotted eggs. Every once in awhile they would lay a full whitish one. Someone once told me that's comparable to a printer running out of ink or toner. It's not back just maybe didn't stay in long enough to get it's coloring or stayed inside to long. If she's acting normal with no other symptoms I would say this is fine and the next eggs should be normal. Just like with a chicken my black copper marans would lay a chocolate egg and over time it would become lighter and lighter to where it was just a brown egg.

Thank you so much! Lol, my hen just ran out of ink . The weirdest thing is, when input the egg in the fridge, the dustiness faded, leaving a normal looking egg until I warmed it up again.

Looks like it's time to change the ink! Is head to the office supply store ASAP! Kidding!

Wow, color changing eggs sound awesome! Should try to breed this feature into eggs.
