Earthen Acres Homestead: First mixed laying flock

Pics
Was just out doing some landscaping on the guinea coop build site. It is right next door to the chicken coop. I had a waist high pile of dead grass, leaves, vines, twigs etc by the time I had the site clear, and I'm like, ugh what am I going to do with all this? Wheelbarrow? Fire? nope, chickens. I just put it in like 5 piles in he chicken run. It was like christmas and six flags all at once. They are out there loving life, teaching me a thing or two about being grateful for the small things, and I don't have to worry about organic material disposal I friggin love these birds.

Stoked with how the guinea site is looking. They arrive in 6 days! Feels good to be makin moves toward my goals.

Chickens are very effective recyclers. I loved that about them.

Built this chicken tractor today. Plan to house the meat birds I am hatching in there. I think it came out great and materials only cost $150! Full thread on it in the coop section!

I thinkk it's great!
Is the floor of the tractor made with fence? it would be more weak protection for your birds without the fence..

I saw some pictures of your flock. I'm really admired by the variety of your birds. Very very cute:love:love

Did some candling last night. Didn't take pics because I was trying to be careful and methodical. 6/7 of my eggs are viable on day 8! The one I pulled didn;t end up even being fertilized so, so far the new incubator is working well. I think I am going to turn on the daily cooling function tomorrow for an hour a day. Being my first hatch, I have no experience frame of reference, but data seems to support the daily cooling period theory. Maybe ill cool this time and not next time, for comparison purposes. Progress, yay!

Thank you! No fencing on the floor. I'm thinking about it though. Or maybe adding a hardware cloth skirt on hinges that can fold up when I move it.

The keets are here! 16 beautiful healthy French Pearl guineas. They are rambunctious and adorable. I am currently keeping them in my bathroom because it is the only room in my cottage with a door, and my dog just can't handle the excitement! Everyone is eating and drinking and warming up. Some crappy pics rn, more to come in my guinea thread!
