also is it normal for ducks to "yawn"? theyll open their mouth wide and stick their tongue out a little, and then fall asleep... and is it normal for them to blow water out of their nostrils outside of the water?

Hello..What your seeing is his umbilical and that needs to dry up and fall off. All Ducklings and Ducks get full Crops when they eat. I feed Duckling a wet soupy bowl of Duckling food plus have dry out too. Water deep enough to clean out nares also. I never set a temp to anything specific. I heat one part of the Brooder so they can choose how warm they want to be.
I don't believe anything is wrong with your Duckling.

that first picture is the same thing my duck has but his is scabbed over which is why it's black. when he kicked off his shell he was bleeding in that area so i put a warm wet towel over the spot for a bit. it is certainly not his vent since i can see/find his vent separately.

that doesnt come out when he poops it is just always there.

he poops but it is few and far between. poop is more solid than the other babies.

if the duck starter is medicated, is it possible to give them too much?
also, do clogged crops cause constipation?? in other words, if their crops are swollen but theyre pooping a lot, are they fine?

i have to take him out to separate him sometimes to watch to see if he pooped since he is with three others. whats a crumble slurry lol, feed soaked in water?

I knew it wasn’t coming out of the vent :D if it were intestines or unabsorbed yolk, then it would be from the umbilical area. But if too much didn’t get absorbed properly, that is what concerned me. I think now that he is mobile and feeling better, that part should dry out and fall off without any issue. But watch that it doesn’t get pulled on by others or the scabby part get pulled off and get infected.

thank you!! so is it normal that he can't poop...? he pooped like three times now thank god but he pushes a lot and nothing comes out and when it does its very small.

also my other duckling is pooping a lot and it is very watery. is that normal or should i limit his food/water?

I don't free feed ducks, I fed every two hours but they had water all the time. If the others are thriving and mobile you're doing it right...not every baby can be saved, unfortunately that's nature. I hope he makes it!
do you think that is partly causing the diarrhea in the other duckling? Theyre four days old, i will try to feed them every couple hours instead of just leaving it in there for them... I thought I wasn't supposed to so this is really great advice, Thanks!

Don't limit his water or food. Give him time. Have you wet the feed to a soupy mix?..Try that. Is his vent clear of droppings..?

some yawning is normal. Too much may mean they're too warm. Spouting water out of their nose is how ducks clean their nares. Even the adults do it.

Ducks drink a lot of water and the poo is more watery thank a chickens. It's more the color that you'd look for. Is it normal color with white? Normal for babies on dry food is usually sort of brown.

How's the munchkin today?
