It's probably not the chest. More likely the crop. The crop is a little organ at the base of the neck that helps digest food. If it feels like a water balloon it may be sour crop.
thats exactly what it feels like... is that fatal

:ya glad you got pooped on! ;)

How does the vent look now?
I was actually thinking it looked like intestines hanging out, but I’m on mobile and pics don’t enlarge well for me.
Would love for @casportpony to take a look

Agree with "looking like intestines hanging out" ... I had a gosling with this problem, they try to push to poo & intestine exposed. Got a picture of the vent area after it pooped?
Awaiting to see what @casportpony has to say.

thank you, this is why i posted. i needed to know if there was something easy and obvious that should be done to help him because if i didnt do anything i would feel even worse. but even having tried everything, and even though he finally pooped on me (yay!) i still am cautious and preparing myself just in case :(
I’m sure rooting for him! I know that desperate feeling you have. They are such sweet little things. I’ve sat up all night with weak ones holding it and syringe feeding.:hugs

Let’s hope he continues to get better and better.

I agree, I don’t think that looks like the yolk sac. But I haven’t had a lot of experience with unabsorbed yolk. And the 2 times I did it resolved within a couple hours. I’ll post a before & after pic of one of them. As for the clicking sound I did have one chick that had that problem because it swollowed some of the fluid in the egg and unfortunately it didn’t make it. But it’s a good sign your guy pooped. I would keep up the fluids and I’ll keep my fingers crossed that he pulls through for you. It’s pretty normal for their crops to feel full and squishy. Ducks eat and drink a ton, even as babies. If they are to hot they usually get lethargic and lay around an extra lot. If they are comfortable they will run around eating and drinking a lot in between short naps.

that first picture is the same thing my duck has but his is scabbed over which is why it's black. when he kicked off his shell he was bleeding in that area so i put a warm wet towel over the spot for a bit. it is certainly not his vent since i can see/find his vent separately.

that doesnt come out when he poops it is just always there.

he poops but it is few and far between. poop is more solid than the other babies.

if the duck starter is medicated, is it possible to give them too much?
also, do clogged crops cause constipation?? in other words, if their crops are swollen but theyre pooping a lot, are they fine?

Can you post a picture of it's poop? To get it to poop more, get more water into it. The easiest way to do that is to offer it a crumble slurry.

i have to take him out to separate him sometimes to watch to see if he pooped since he is with three others. whats a crumble slurry lol, feed soaked in water?
