I have some English lavender Orpington eggs and I’m no Orpington expert, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me if these guys are pure/quality Orpingtons. I got the eggs for DIRT CHEAP. I’m not too sure what to look for but... here are the parents.

So yes, they are pure Orpingtons judging by that photo. Do you have any other pictures of the parents? And do you have the original wording of the ad, by the seller? It's very hard to judge type from that photo, but I see nothing to indicate the birds are "English-type". They look better than most American-bred Lavender Orpingtons, and that's mostly because the rooster isn't super tall with a squirrel tail. The hen I can see has a very high tail set though.

This is what a proper English-type, Lavender Orpington should look like.

See how the birds are much larger and have loose feathering. That's correct for the English Type.

These are more typical of the American-type since they've become so popular.

Yuck! As you can see the differences are pretty easy to spot. Generally English are much more expensive to obtain than their

So you'll have to judge on photos of the parents and how the chicks develop and look as they get older. I would not get your hopes up though if you were expecting a group of fat-bottomed girls.

I’m dying 😂😂

Okay!! Helpful! Like I said the eggs were dirt cheap. I got 7 of them for five bucks and thought worst case scenario, I’d have chickens with pretty plumage.

the original add was on Facebook and it said something to the effect of “my incubator is full and I have some extra English lavender Orpington eggs if anyone wants them.” I have a handful more pictures. He was extremely nice and even met me half way. I don’t think he’s a scammer or anything, just maybe didn’t know exactly what he had. And neither did I. 😂

here’s some more photos although I think it’s pretty clear they’re not English at this point. Do you know where I could find English?

The birds in the photos are also quite young... a little under a year I believe. Don’t know if that makes a difference or not.

They don't call me the Sass Master for nothing.

I would agree that is a correct assumption after the additional photos. He probably purchased them as English like all the other people who buy things and assume the seller is correct. You see that with a lot of birds. Thankfully, you asked.

By that age they'd still be larger. Here are some English Orpingtons around 5-6 months.

Carolina Rare Chicks has some nice looking English Lavenders. As well as a bunch of other colors you'll find you need the moment you lay eyes on them. lol Be sure to get some Black Orpingtons as well if you're breeding so you can keep the feather shredding to a minimum.

Wait... why would black keep feather shredding to a minimum? 😂

Also have you gotten eggs or chicks from there before? I’m always extremely wary to purchase from hatcheries.

Their birds are beautiful! @Rhodebar Lover has ladies from their
Thank you!! Yes, Carolina Rare Chicks has some great birds! Here are mine from them at the ages of 5 months for the cockerel and 9 months for the pullets! I will say, I only have one Red Orpington from them and I can't speak for all their potential birds, but the red variety is much, much smaller. Still English body type, but more normal chicken-sized :) If you want the massive size, my black ones have been huge!

Yeah! This is what I’m looking for! How are the roosters temperament? I know you can’t speak for every bird there but I was just wondering because I love roosters! I’ve had one mean one and I swear I will never do it again!
