Expectant parent club! Where the pregnant people hang out.

having a crappy day here.

So for headstart, baby boy needs a physical and a dental exam. Ok. No problem. They just told us this on Friday, and gave us the physical and dental forms. Today is Tuesday. I haven't got an appt for him with either the pediatrician or the dentist YET but they are on my to do list.

1) We're in the process of looking for a new pediatrician, because once again ours is OUT OF THE COUNTRY and I told them this on Friday.

2) The local dentist doesn't take our insurance, so I have to get ahold of the dentist that is almost an hour away that DOES take our insurance, and be sure that I have the gas $ to get Baby boy there.

3) I was just told we needed these things on FRIDAY so give me a chance to get it done, people.

So we take Baby Boy to his first day of school and eat lunch with him. We of course are finished first, and Baby Boy is showing them what a great appetite he has by eating all his fruits and vegetables, so we take that opportunity to sneak out (to avoid the melt down as he'd already said he wanted to go home).

We didn't make it out the door without Miss. M cornering us. I explained Baby Boy won't be in school tomorrow because I have to get blood work done in the morning AND I have my weekly Dr. appt in the afternoon - so there won't be anyone here to get him onto the bus.

Miss M. replies: "he's getting his physical tomorrow then?"
me: Um, no, I have a Dr. appt. His physical isn't scheduled yet.
Miss M. : OK well he needs that physical and dental appt ASAP
me: well, Miss B said we have until mid September, and we are having to work around a few things
Miss M: well, he needs a hemo and a lead test.
me: he needs a whatta what?!
Miss M: was he in wic?
Me: yes
Miss M: Ok I can get the hemo from them, but you need to get his Dr. to write down his lead levels for me and get that dental appointment as soon as possible.
me: staring blankly
E: and this is why we withdrew the last kid! first day of school and already it's nag nag nag!

on the way to the car...

me: *still trying to figure out what the heck just happened*
E: *grumbling* this is why we took A out. It was nag nag nag all the time. Even if you had those scheduled I bet they would find something else to nag about. We shouldn't have put him in. We should have just stuck to our original plan and did pre-school at home. Stupid school. Don't think about what we've got going on, and you're having a baby soon, and we're supposed to work all this in before the baby arrives..
me: *jogging to keep up* I guess we can take him back out, but what a waste of time...
E: no, leave him in for now, but if they are going to start this crap already - well, we'll see.

aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh oh the headache.

And, to top it off, our Bourbon Red tom kicked the bucket today, and this morning DD and I had to chase a chicken hawk off the top of our coop.

And my FIL was down nagging for pie.

Quail-

Just do your best to IGNORE the school nagging stuff. All you have to do is tell them you have appt's for everything they want- but the appt's are in 2 weeks from today. They WONT kick your kid out, its not like they have a choice in the matter but to wait. That should give you some time to handle your business and take some stress off ya. I hated all that stuff when my 2nd son went through it- it was all kinda new to me since they didnt ask for any of that stuff to be done with my 2 oldest. Things sure have changed!

Just wait till all the begging starts- 'We need donations, please send in this or that, please support our whatever, IT NEVER ENDS!! My DD's school actually sent out a letter asking for money for some school thing BEFORE school even started! AND it wasnt for anything for her!! I try to do all I can, but sheesh! I know school budgets are severly messed up, but c'mon! I cant provide school supplies for all my kids classmates, AND donate to school sports programs, AND donate for field trips, AND buy chocolates for the band fundraiser, etc, etc! I do collect box tops, and try to collect cans and bottles though. And then they add in this dental check requirement and iron check thing- its not like everyone has insurance, or if they dont, its not like everyone qualifies for assistance. Sorry.....was my frustration showing? I try to keep it to myself, but sometimes.....

Sorry about the hawk- SCARY! I really hope your day gets better!

Blackberry pie! He made up for it by bringing us super cold pepsi's! I don't normally drink pop of any kind, but heck, crappy day and he offers a super cold drink - I'll take it! It was Ok, I'm just not a big fan of pop. I was only able to drink 1/2 a can.

Mrs. K, yes, please scream for me lol

I ended up calling our pediatricians office, and he is BACK! whoot! so Baby boy has his physical scheduled for Sept 6. Whew. She (secretary) also told me they (the school) should NOT be nagging me, because we have 30 days from first day of school to get the physical and dental done. YAY. I also explained we had not vaccinated baby boy ever, but that we have decided we want the DTP for the tetnus and pertussis vaccinations. She said Ok.

Oh, Im so glad you were able to work some of that stuff out! Make sure you ask for the forms that say you opt out of vaccinations for personal reasons and give it to the school before you get any new vaccinations or they might give you more crap about giving one vaccine and not another. Some schools can be weird about that stuff. SHE may say 'OK', but the school policies may say otherwise. (I dont vaccinate, ever anymore- my kids get severe reactions, AND they get sick EVERY time I've tried!)

I only drink soda when I have indigestion...it seems to help settle things down for a bit, but even then, I only drink a few sips and then stick it in the fridge for later when symptoms return. I hate tums, and rolaids, and Im trying to stay off Prilosec, so the soda does the trick for me. But I hear ya, I CANT drink a whole soda, the caffeine and sugar give me the shakes, and the bubbles have me burping for hours!

I'm sorry you had such a day. And it is exactly for many of the same reasons that you and suzettex5 mentioned, that I plan to home school when Carly is old enough. I can only imagine the shape in which our public school system will be in by then.

Good news!!!
Carly's white cell count is back to normal..

But they are going to keep us again tonight because of the jaundice. It is remarkably better as well, but they aren't comfortable sending us home with the odds of us returning hanging in the balance. They want to be certain she is 100%, and I agree. We are with her round the clock and would tend to miss any slight color changes.. So I am glad they want to be so thorough.
Thanks for all of your well wishes!!

Im not sure what your hospital policies may be (or what you guys may be comfortable with) but, I had 2 kids with Jaundice, (they sent us home each time while they were still kinda yellow) and what we did was take them outside in the AM and later in the day when the sun wasnt at full strength, and exposed them to the sun for a full 10 to 20 minutes on their whole bodies wearing only a diaper. We also sat with them in the sun inside the house near a window- their jaundice cleared up in about 2 or 3 days. I really think the sun does a better, faster job than the photolights the hospital uses. So I was thinking that maybe when you guys hold her, you could either step outside (if they have a place you can do that without leaving hospital grounds) or sit with her by a window that gets good sunlight through it.

I was concerned at first with mine that they would get sunburned or the light hurt their eyes, but it didnt (and I have some SERIOUSLY white skinned babies with their Irish heritage!) and it cleared up fast. I hope Carlys' jaundice goes away super fast, and if they send her home with you still a tad yellow, use the sun- its affects are amazing! Try some of these if the sun seems to bug her eyes-

GLAD her cell count is back to normal! SO glad she is better in that respect.
