So glad she's okay. 💗 Do you have vetrycin or is that what you're buying? It does an amazing job.
Yes! @TOMTE get Vetrycin spray! I had three gals with terrible dog bite wounds and that stuff is a miracle worker!! Mine were split open on both sides of their back end and the puncture wounds on their backs… mine all healed beautifully! Your gal should do well🙏🏻❤️
Also, add Neosporine… do both three times a day!

If you can get some peroxide, you can flush the wound with that. Puncture wounds are notoriously bad for infections.

Good luck, she looks comfy so hopefully she’s just bruised up.

And also, yes I do blame the dog’s owner (and by extension the dog), they are supposed to be controlling their animals at all times. You spend a lot of time and money on your chooks, it’s not too much to ask for people to keep their dogs under control.

Sending hugs to both of you.

Yep, the dog owners have a huge responsibility cuz of the damage a dog can inflict on human or other animals. Some people get dogs & that's it... they don't do research on breed temperaments, family or visitor compatibility, hunting or digging instincts, etc etc... & then they don't bother to take the time to obedience or command train them. Ultimately at least keep the mutt on a leash if the owners don't take the time to invest in training the dog. Dogs are glorious & functional animals but not the irresponsible dog owners.

This particular dog is very sweet and well trained, but she's a husky and huskies are very prey driven dogs. She wasn't aggressive, she wasn't vicious, she was playing with what she saw as prey/a plaything. The owner is a very sweet woman too. I don't get angry at dogs easily at all 😆

Then the woman is at fault. It is her responsibility to have control of her dog at all times.

I had the best dog ever - he was a wonderful animal. But even him I didn’t not trust 100% with the kids and small animals.

We cannot read their minds, and animals have their own agendas.

I am sure your lovely girl will make a full recovery, chickens are tough creatures. But even a playful dog can easily kill a small animal (or child).

On another topic, a good wound cleaner is also Betadine, not sure how expensive it is, but it’s good.

For minor wounds I also use Blue Kote spray. Last time I bought it was $10 USD. But that was a couple yrs ago…

Yep... my beef isn't the dog... but the owner... no matter how "sweet"... should never own a breed that doesn't train to your ability to command it... or use a leash as a safety measure. Huskies are a very self-willed breed.

Rottweilers off leash... & tirelessly trained to stop on a dime w/ a command. This breed, we found, lived for each next command no matter if a toddler, a horse, a car, a bike, or a cat went by them they were obedient. Still, in a populace place like a neighborhood or where there were other animals we kept them on a leash for safety just in case (& obeyed the leash laws!).

Peroxide is a wonderful help on many medical issues as long as it's diluted in sterilised water

One of the Marans boys. They spend so much time in the woods, they end up over at my parent's house a few times a day.

Marble's owner is having no luck with fertility in his pen. May be the heat. Hopefully Marble is fertile...

Herding dogs like that need lots of work to do ♥️ Working with cattle or even sheep ♥️
