My doc looked at 15 weeks, but couldn't tell. So we found out for sure at 19 weeks. Most doctors check between 18 and 20 weeks.

Hmmm....well, I have my appointment tomorrow morning so I'll ask....I don't think it's an ultrasound but they never tell me anyway. I just am surprised every time I go in. Which is probably best because I HATE the blood draw (they can ever find a vein on me!) but don't mind peeing in a cup. LOL

Your next Ultrasound is probably around 20 weeks, that is when they do all the major measuring and check that the baby's heart, brain and organs are all complete. They also check for cleft lip, and things like that at the big 20 week ultrasound.

LOL I'm a first-timer, too! But welcome!

So far...and I'm at 16 weeks...I've had it done four times. The first visit, the second and then they had me go back and redo the second (checking my thyroid again) and then another time. The first time...there was no warning that it was a LOT of blood and the broad doing the blood draw couldn't find a vein...and when she did it must have been the smallest in my arm--because it took FOREVER to fill all SEVEN of the vials of blood!

I had blood drawn at 16 weeks because I chose to do the genetice testing, to check for risk of Downs Syndrom and other genetic abnormalities (sp?). Then they took blood again at 28 weeks for the Gestational Diabetes test.

Yeah they asked me if I wanted that done and told them I wasn't sure...but she (the doctor) said she'd ask again so if she asks tomorrow, I'll have it done. It's just weird that they wait for so long into the pregnancy...unless they have to?

Well, that's not too bad - not a fan of the whole needle in my arm thing, but I think I can survive two, haha!

I was dreading someone coming back with, "oh, every time you go in"

Its not too bad. With my daughter, I had blood taken 1st appointment, then again 24 weeks for gestational diabetes test (which was even better than normal). Then I had to retake my gestational diabetes test at 28 weeks because they did a second ultrasound to check for a genetic condition my husband has and she was measuring big (again, results came back even better than normal).

Then, starting around 32 weeks I had to get blood drawn at every appointment because I was spilling protein into my urine and they wanted to check for pre-eclampsia (UGH). I didn't have any of the other signs - blood pressure was normal, no swelling, but always spilled protein. The woman who drew my blood was an idiot too, and couldn't hit a vein to save her life! She was the only one who worked in the clinic, so I always had to go to her and always dreaded it. Its apparently normal for some women to spill protein into their urine in late pregnancy (apparently I am one of them), but doctors always want to be on the safe side (which is good, I guess).

I hate blood draws

Don't worry! My experience wasn't normal!! I don't know anyone else who had the same experience...
