I purchased a Faverolle chick at my farm store. I think they get their chicks from Meyer hatchery? They claim to sell sexed pullets. Anyways, I noticed that an adult Faverolle Roo have black breast feathers. What about my chick? Is it possible that its a roo instead of a hen???

I'm new to Faverolles. I'll be fine if it turns out to be a Roo! I'll most definitely keep him.

What are your thoughts?

Here is our Faverolle chick (female) that we purchased from Meyer last fall. Chick is 4 weeks old in the first 2 pictures, and 8 weeks old in the last 2 pictures. She was much darker than she should be, but no black feathers. Black feathers is a pretty accurate sign of male for this breed.

Wow, so fluffy and pretty! Yea looks like it might just be a roo. Plus, his feather growth is sorta slow?

Any updates? Just curious if your chick ended up being a pullet or a cockerel. I'm new to chickens and have a favorelles chick from Meyers. She is supposed to be a pullet. So far she has a few primary feathers that seem dark but the rest of the wing seems light. She's not even two weeks old yet. I'm sure it'll be easier to tell later on.

Not OP, but we got two more faverolles chicks from an April 29, 2019 hatch. They are straight run, but appear to be females - no black feathers. Here they are at nearly 3 weeks old.

They are gorgeous! Did they come from a breeder? Next time, if I try faverolles again, I may have to look for a local breeder. I think mine is adorable, but if it is a pullet, her wings may be feathering in a little dark.

Also, you take lovely photographs. This may inspire me to make a backdrop and take some better pictures of my chicks before they are grown.
