Favorelle in pain, large warm vent abcess?

Good job working on getting the mites gone.
Please keep us updated!

I'm funny about number, lol, and enjoy doing a little math. :D Elector PSP is 44.2% (442 mg spinosad per 1 ml), and it's supposed to be mixed at ~9 ml per gallon.

9 x 442 = ~3978 mg per spinosad per gallon

Your Captain Jack's is 0.5% (5 mg per one ml). Does that make sense?
ok I looked again at the math. in the AM with some coffee in me! If i'm understanding right: Capt. Jacks needs approx 88ml capt. jacks to = one elector dose. so if 5mg : 1ml then that would be 17.6 tsp or 5 TBS to 1 gal. Which is way higher than what i did before.
Please feel free correct my math if you find error. Thank you!

THANK YOU! They are determined bugs!!
I have enlisted the hubby to help with the clean out today. I am also going to stain some of the exposed wood with iron acetate stain. Let it dry, then apply spinosad to all wood, and chooks.

As for the Vet. He didn't end up calling back last night/this morning. I called and spoke with the woman at the desk. The vet had multiple surgeries last night, and didn't get to calling me back. She gave me his email, and said he would look it over when he had a chance and would call me back today. Vern is currently back with the flock. I attached pictures of her situation, and described the fox attack, and Epsom salt routine we did yesterday. I asked about antibiotics (which she said he would probably prescribe for me), and whether he prescribed a different course of action than i'm already taking. With the babies roosting i'm watching to see if the roosters become interested in her. I will remove her if this starts to happen. I'm anxious to see what he says when he see's the pictures. I will update again once I've heard back. For now, one more cup of coffee then to the coop we go!

88x seems about right, but I'm not following you past that.
So lets look at this another way.
1 ml of Capatain's = 5 mg
1 ml 0f Elector = 442 mg

442/5 = 88.4, yes? So 88.4 ml of CJ = 1 ml of Elector?
target dose of spinosad per gallon is ~3978 mg.
So 5 tablespoons of CJ = 375 mg (15 ml per tablespoon x 5 tablespoons x 5 mg)
If you want to use CJ add 757 ml (25.6 ounces) Captain Jack's to 3028 ml (102 ounces) water.

Elector is 3 ounces per *10* gallons
3 ounces = 88.7206 / 10 = 8.87206 x 88.4 = 784.290104 ml to 128 ounces, but those two amounts won't fit in a one gallon container, which is why I said 757 and 3028 water.

Gosh I'm glad you're here... and that i'm not too proud to keep displaying my horrible math skills on the internet! at least i got to the 88x correct. Yes that's what i did 442/5. I would have to order the elector off Amazon. I still want to give the coop a good treatment today, and Spray the hens.
So
25.6 oz = 3 cups. Captain jacks to 102 oz. = .79 gal. of water. I still have enough to do that! Thanks again. I hope someone else will be able to see these conversations and find them helpful too. I'm glad I bought the big bottle!

I just looked up elector psp. it's $300 for 8oz! if all this doesn't work i will get the permethrin. I have the capt jacks though so i might as well give it another dose at a more accurate concentration since I have already started started. even buying a second big bottle will be cheaper than elector.

Do you understand now why we were kinda insisting that you use permethrin?

It's crazy huh!

I can wait to see what your vet has to say!
Have fun cleaning!

it's super crazy!! The hubby and I both feel like we made a diff. after the last time with my mega weak mix. So are gonna give it a go with the larger concentration. And you can buy many many bottles of Capt. Jacks for the cost of one 8oz of the other one. but yea crazy cost diff. I think knocking them down is important. But after this i hope they never get this crazy again. i'm sure now that i have learned so much i can take care of it naturally into the future. I will catch them much quicker from now on. That is for sure!
My next post will be when i hear from the vet! Thank you all!

No word from the vet yet. Frustrated. My chicken is not going to be high on the priority list :( Hopefully tomorrow AM. She had sad chicken tail today. I cleaned, and cleaned the coop today. Gonna go make the drive to town, and get more Epson salt tomorrow. I'm hoping i'll hear back from the vet and have some antibiotics or something to pick up. At least giving her a bath makes me feel like i'm doing something. The largest spot under her vent sticks out so much it just catches all the poop. This morning they looked less red :/ The coop, roost, nestboxes, bedding, along the corners of the floor, and All chickens got a solid dose of captain jacks. sprayed their butts, under wings, and feet. They all hate me now. Have a good night. It's nice to know there are chicken people out there kinda in this with me. Poor Vern.

Sorry to hear that you haven't heard back. Hope you hear soon. :hugs
