Favorelle in pain, large warm vent abcess?

Elector PSP is $142 at Valley Vet:

I think it's way too expensive, so I would suggest you try permethrin first. Save that $142 and put it in an emergency poultry fund instead.
We are gonna buy one more big bottle of capt. jacks, and retreat with the dose we figured. If that doesn't work I'm going for the permethrin. I'm impressed you were able to find it that "cheap"! Even if one bottle does seem it last forever..."Mix 2 oz. in 10 gallons water for 5,000 to 10,000 square feet of coverage." That would be my house, and the chickens, and the yard.... We would have to do math all over again to figure out how much of a micro dose I would need!! haha!! Vern is acting "tippy" today. Didn't see her fall over, but she looked like she had one too many drinks when she was going to the water bucket. Also the poop board looks like she had super watery poop. i did see her drink a sip of the water while she was in the soak (I kept her from doing it again).... Do you think it is from the epsom salt? She had reg. poops up until this morning. No word back from the vet as of yet.

No word from the vet. Vern is not active today. i mentioned before she was wobbly this morning, and very watery poo. I just got back from getting more Epson salt, and she is hiding under pallets in the back yard that have lumber stacked on it. No other birds are bothering her right now. i doubt they know where she is. i've never seen chickens under the pallet like she is. is a bath going to stress her out more? or should i bring her inside? Her very large babies are how i found her. It should be noted, that we can put her in the bathroom, but i do have a beagle. The house is overall quiet.... untill it isn't. cause he's a beagle :) What can i do to help her? I'm feeling impatient, but if it's best to leave her alone i can do that too. it's hot, and super muggy here today. storms are moving in today, and the air is heavy. broody mom is doing great however. so that's good!

A bath would stress her. If she were mine I would get rid of those mites ASAP. Please do double check your mix ratio because I think that anything less than what I suggested might be too weak.

FYI, the Elector PSP dose for mite/chickens is 3 ounces per ten gallons, not 2 ounces per ten gallons.

CCinVT I'm sorry about Vern, I hope that you get rid of your mites and can help Vern's little booty. I read all these posts and get all anxious! I keep praying I never get a mite infestation and now sometimes feel like I'm in way over my head but it's too late now because I love my girls way too much! And don't worry about your math, I think I flunked every math course I had to take!

These look like feather follicle cysts or abscesses to me. It's basically an ingrown feather that then forms a pocket of cheesy pus. Not uncommon around the vent. I'd be inclined to do a little exploratory surgery--puncture one and see what's inside.

I just copied and pasted the elector instructions off of the discounted price site. I used Google measument converter to change your number to cups( which is what I had to measure with). It should have been a good punch in the face for the mites. I was as thorough as I could be. No bath then. She is resting in her shady spot.

I'm worried about keeping it clean enough without the antibiotics...

Thank you for that. Help me take a breath!

so healing fox injuries could have cause ingrown feathers? The one under her butt is deff. The largest and oval. Would the bath help pull the feathers out? I wouldn't even know what equipment to "explore" with. My sister lives a little over 2 hrs away, but would be comfortable lancing it. I jave no idea when her days off are, and Vern is not improving....then I go back to no antibiotics. Would stress be giving her watery poo?

8:03 pm and the vet finally called me! I think he knew I wasn't gonna stop calling! He said it looks like an infection and I have to give her antibiotics. That it sounds like it was a bad attack. That baths are fine and keeping her clean is good. He said it would be a liquid antibiotic and that I would have to squirt it in her mouth! Any tips for how to accomplish that?! Its supposed to be rainy here tomorrow. As a gardener this will give me a chance to run to the vets in the AM. Will give her a bath to. Her toosh is dirty.he said she Watery poops just because she is sick. I dunno he didn't sound sympathetic to my chicken, but I'm getting antibiotics! I still think the feather follicle infection also makes since so I will keep monitoring for improvement. We decided if he didnt call back by tomorrow we would go find someone else. I've been seeing this vet for my cats and dogs for 10 yrs now. I'm irritated it took this long to call back.watching her struggle has been hard. Do you think I should separate her. The babies just stayed with her today, and she hung out under that pallet. Babies still cry for her when I take her away, but I don't have a cage big enough right now for all of them.
