Feed sack recycling ideas??

Well I guess now we need to figure out something artsy to do with chicken feathers. Jewelry? Hair ornaments, anyone?

Fishing Lures... But you might need a specialty rooster for that

I have been saving our feed bags for the past year. I may use a few unique ones to decorate the coop, but I intend to use most of them to store finished compost over the winter for when I need it in the spring. I'm envisioning sacks of compost stacked in our shed and ready to use come next spring! Hopefully I'm able to actually make enough compost to store. I seem to be using it as fast as I can make it right now since we didn't get any finished compost from last year.

not necessarily a specialty rooster... you could make lures with any feather. Chicken feathers make nice fly fishing lures if you you tie them to a small hook. A few feathers glued (or use lead for a heavier lure) into a bullet shell make an attractive lure too for casting and reeling, in which case you could attach the hook to the lure or attach it to the line behind the lure.

I use mine to make roofs on the pens. Right now they are only on the nursery and the quail cage. We are collecting to do the entire run.

Not sure if it has been mentioned but we used them for target practice after stuffing with pinestraw for bows and .22s

does anyone have any ideas on what to do w/all the feed sacks one collects? I use a couple for recycling (cardboard, cans, #1 plastic), and I wipe off my dog food bags & use them for wrapping packages (inside out so I can use the blank side for addressing). Oh, and I use them as trash bags too.

I used one in my car to protect the floor before I got floor mats. Another time I used 2 or 3 to cover holes in the chicken coop where the chicks were escaping. I had to secure them because the older chickens would scratch at them and try to move them out of the way. I used another to feed the chickens wet food that would be lost on the ground after a rain. I think you did a good job yourself brainstorming!

You can get clear Christmas tree ornaments and fill them with your choice of feathers. I also like to use feathers to decorate gifts or small plain brown bags filled with treats. Smaller feathers tied with raffia around home made soap wrapped in parchment paper. Wash feathers gently first, rinse and dry before use. Some people make gorgeous wreaths from feathers.... Just a few ideas

I use the bags to line the garbage can in my garage workshop. Screws, nails, bits of wood and metal; this stuff would shred even the toughest heavy duty garbage bags. The feed bags just laugh at it no matter how hard I crush it in.

I like the tote idea though.
