Great to know! It's always nice to hear other people's testimonies. Thanks for sharing that!

I clean my coop regularly, use Sweet PDZ to keep the moisture down, and never have had a problem with flies or mites....
I have not tried DE, but I am suspicious of anything that claims to cure this much. It is much more likely to be a snake oil than the panacea it claims to be.

I don't think that DE "is claiming" anything. These are just the different uses that people use it for.

Not only that, but these are uses that people have had success with using DE. So people may think these claims are outrageous, but I see the same things over and over - it's up to the potential user to decide. I don't have any financial stake in the use of DE, I just know from my own experience that it works.

I've been using food grade Diatomaceous Earth with my flock since June 2007 (got most of them as day-old chicks in May '07, have hatched any others myself).

I don't see it as a cure for anything but it has been an excellent preventative for me with my flock. My birds haven't had/suffered from worms/parasites/lice/mites. I've noticed less of a fly problem even though our place is surrounded on all sides from livestock of various forms.

It's nothing more than a personal choice if you decide to use it or not. I use it because so far, it has worked wonderfully for me as a preventative and believe in the saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Edited to add: I am not a seller/distributor of food grade DE

I have to drive about 80 miles each way to a distributor but it is well worth it. I get 50lbs for $19.00 and usually split the gas with a friend as she usually needs it when I do as well.
I sprinkle it in the back of my cupboards to kill any buggies.
I had ant in my bathroom last summer but took care of that in a few days.
I like it because I can put it out and not worry about my dog getting into poison.
Iv'e only had chickens a year but have never had fleas, lice, mites, worms etc.
I put it in my yogurt now and then and in the dog and cats food as well.
If you consider all the toxic stuff out there this is a great alternative.

Azure Standard sells 50 #'s for $17.00.

I'm going to put a couple hives near the garden, so I won't be using it there. But there are many other uses. It is good to keep bugs out of the stored grains.
