Fugly Farm

Lucy still thinks she's broody and has gone back to her nest. I pulled all the extra eggs today and candled the ones I marked. Egg 4 is gone but the other 3 are showing development. I'm firing up the incubator and giving her some fake eggs until lockdown, temp is supposed to spike to near 110* The all white older Nn pullet is not good. Pale comb, moving slowly, not eating. She's not egg bound and her crop is empty so we're putting her down tonight. The white cockerel mated with one of the girls this morning. Angus knocked him off but didn't beat him up which surprised me. Although when he gathers the flock together he herds the younger cockerels too which I find interesting. I think some day he's going to be a great roo. Unfortunately though, I think we're going to have to process the extra boys sooner than anticipated before it turns ugly.

ETA not incubating eggs and not letting the broody hatch. Probably not a good idea with having to put down a pullet today.

Super great news!! My son and DIL are taking 4 of the white pullets leaving me with one. The kid down the street is taking the 4 fully feathered red girls and the roosters are going to freezer camp. By 4th of July things will be more normal. I'm ready for that!

I ordered Ayam Cemani hatching eggs so I guess I'll be firing up the incubator next week.

That will free up some space!

Are you interested in the AC as meat birds or wanting to add another breed to your flock?

Just mixing it up. I like the weird and unusual so figured the AC would be a fun addition. I would prefer pullets for Angus to mate with, might get some cool looking offspring.

Interesting. My incubator is sitting collecting dust right now. I need to move this last batch of chick's out of the brooder. They are jumping and trying to fly all over in it. I'm still having problem's with the internet service doing the in-out, in-out thing. I think that if it wasn't for me wanting to get on BYC here, I'd just tell them to end the service and save on that money every month.

Internet problems are so frustrating...hope the issue is cleared up soon!
