G'day everyone from (not so) sunny Queensland, Australia. Big thank you for letting me join your online community. My wife and I have a 1 acre block and currently have 3 laying hens (ex-cage Hyline commercial layers) and recently acquired 6 pullets. 2 Welsummer, 2 Polish, Blue laced Barnevelder and a Barnevelder/Wyandotte cross. I am also into growing organic vegetables to feed us and the chooks. Look forward to learning from the more experienced chicken owners. Cheers.

Thank you, it's nice to meet you too. I do like the idea of giving them a varied diet. They get Swiss chard, lettuce and spinach but also any tomatoes and strawberries that get split. They also like cucumber and button squash as well. They help me make good compost for the garden and they get the rewards for their hard work.

Thank you very much. It's been a big learning curve for us but they've been great chickens. We have a small flock of heritage pullets now so will probably get more rescue hens later down the track.

Thank you for rescuing. There are so many unwanted chickens, especially roosters.

Unfortunately that's part of animal production systems for many species of animal. The pet trade is just as bad though.
