Thats what happens when you get old.

I could say I know it all and just forgot but i would be lying. every time i think I got it figured out a new product comes along and throws me upside down. For example, a member on here named Dawg is the (in my opinion) the best for advise on worming . I was using Ivermectin til he said its no longer good for worms. .I guess the worms became resistant to it. Not sure how that happens but i guess it does. How has meds. changed for you over the years ? Did you even worm when you were younger ? I dont know your age, if you told me I have forgotten. I do know that back when worming a chicken wasnt done. I wonder if its the feed sometimes.

That is why I am such an advocate of directed de-worming vs. routine de-worming - same with my horses. I'd rather have a cheap fecal done to determine *if* there is a parasite load and, if there is, which parasites I am dealing with and then apply treatment accordingly vs. just treating every x days/weeks/months "just in case" ---- the other issue is that people tend to under dose and this is where you run into the ability of organisms to develop a resistance to a specific chemical, they get some, but not enough to kill them and that allows their systems to begin to work against that chemical and over time you have organisms that are now immune to a given treatment -- this is how we are ending up with "super bugs" that are antibiotic resistant, because people are anti-biotic happy and run around willy-nilly using them for things that don't need them, mis-dosing, etc. ETA - you may kill 99.9% of a given organism with this treatment or that, but the remaining .1% is now becoming stronger against what you used.

Hey @granny hatchet -- there's a poultry swap at the Madison TSC next Saturday (the 19th)................WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!! The long, chickenless summer is over.

I wish we had swops near us, that would be great. We do have a fur and feather auction market but it's not very nice. Prices are rubbish there too. By the time you driven there and paid for your cage and the commission it's really not worth it.

I have some pullets advertised and I have had a lady ring me but she wanted small like newly hatched chicks. I can't seem to catch a break.

@enola Glad to hear Mike is OK and your right so right on the doc front. Would have saved lots of time and money if they did the test when they should have done.

I know (crying guy) I didn't get a chance to go to a really big swap or show.

I was trying to get the ones I wanted before the end of last month. There are a few good places in MD and PA & WV are nearby. Most of them are at least 2 hours each way. But I do enjoy a scenic drive.

I've rehomed my 2 boys so don't have any fertile eggs right now :hit
I've only got my Mothers evil boy here and he's already a polish x Amber. Will have to get some pics of him, he's made a right beast of a bird with a massive comb. Otherwise that incubator would have been on this evening, without fail!!

With these not selling very well this time I wanted to go in different direction with colours next spring so rehomed them ready. I tell you just my luck at the moment where the birds are concerned. Folk don't want what I have but want things I don't have right now.

I may advertise my incubating services to quell my thirst for it. For a set price the customer brings me the eggs, I incubate them and keep the chicks for a few days and the customer collects. Could be a new business there for me!!
The other half as booked me already for next year to do him some pheasant and partridge for his shoot. I do t k one how that will go down with the dog as she liked my quail because they smelt gamey. Pheasant and partridge will be the same for her.
