I'm new here to BYC. My name is Kayla and I'm a hatch-a-holic. I actually joined BYC because of this hatch-a-long!! Such an exciting idea!

So, for this Halloween Hatch, I set 12 (SHIPPED) Crele Orpington eggs yesterday - 10/10/18 @ 8 pm.

Haha, excited to find this thread. We had a broody hen who won't stop being broody, so we let her have some eggs to see what happens. Our first time trying

Set: 10/6/18
Number: 4
Type: 2 Black star, 1 Red star, 1 Easter egger. (Fertilized by either Barred Rock or Brown Leghorn)
Style: First time broody hen (One of my Black Stars)

Going to try candling tomorrow and hope they are making it!

Turns out my little broody is doing a good job. All 4 eggs had embryos. I hope all 4 hatch!! Looking forward to Oct 27-28!!

Just candled my eggs today, 6 out of the 10 bielefelder eggs are forming, The others don't look to be fertile, So I tossed all of those. And 3 out of the 6 Cemani eggs are lookin' good

Can I join? I have 4 eggs under my broody hen, and 1 in my brinsea mini advance. (silly, huh?) She is a tiny girl and wasn't comfortable on 5 eggs. They are silkie eggs from my own flock. I'm on day 10 already so they won't be halloween chicks exactly.

Set 6 eggs in the incubator yesterday! A mix of Wyandotte, naked neck and silkie eggs. Hopefully a better hatch rate then last time!

How many set??

I have a little Button quail who has decided to sit. We discovered her very well hidden nest yesterday and mountain of eggs (hers and her mothers) and they look about 3 days along, so I'd say she started sitting on the 6th. I think she's on 10 eggs (I removed 2 that were clear but her nest is almost out of reach). It's still reasonably cool here at night and we are about to get a spring cold snap so that might delay them a bit.

quick update! I have received my incubator, candler, and thermometer/hygrometer! everything has been set up, calibrated, and double checked! I cleaned out my brooder box to be ready to go again by hatch date as all of the chicks have successfully transitioned outside (15 silkies and 6 amerecauna/EE’s). My egg assortment is in shipping as Meyer hatchery collects on Mondays, ships on Tuesday, and transit time is 1-3 days. I’m driving myself crazy hoping for some breeds that I don’t have yet!! I ordered 6 even though my incubator will hold more knowing that they sometimes ship an extra or 2. Will update with exact #, breeds, and set date as soon as they arrive!!

I’m officially in!

7 cream legbar eggs given to my broody bantam cochin this morning.

This will be a test hatch of those eggs, since my girls just started laying a month or so ago.
I also need to move the broody to her own broody unit, but didn’t want to do it with room temperature eggs, so once she settles in on them, I’ll move her. Her momma keeps trying to lay in the same nest with her, and I found a broken egg the other day. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen.

I’ve also offered eggs for a contest prize, so if these CL eggs do well, some more of them could be part of the winnings!

Hey everyone! I'm unexpectedly joining in with my first hatch ever. My BCW Polish hen Peebles went broody earlier this month and she's doing such a great job I can't bare to take them away from her. So I guess I'm having a unplanned Halloween hatch. Anyways, there's four eggs and I estimate the set date to be October 6th, so they'll be a little early. Two of them are hers and two of them are from my other hens, Henrietta (RIR) and Lucille, a fake easter egger. She turned out to only lay brown eggs. ): I don't know if the other hens have one egg each in the nest or if one of them laid both. I have two roosters, one a white silkie mix and the other a full blooded blue silkie. I guess I'll have to wait a while to be able to even guess at the chick's parentage.
So to sum it up:

What Kind: 2 BCW polish x silkie, 2 brown eggs that could be RIR x Silkie or EE x Silkie

My eggs were officially set yesterday (10th) around 1pm. Hatch a batch app is set to start counting today. Made their first hand turn this morning.

I’m incubating in my usual homemade coolerbater. Dry run (humidity runs at 30% even then) hand turning 5x a day.

Not holding my breath as I’m just now getting better fertility rates from my young rooster. But happy to see if I have more success this round.

OK, my doves have snuck 2 eggs past me and they are both fertile. Early days yet but they should be due around the 24th by the looks of them. They only hatched 1 out of 2 last time so I'm hoping they continue the trend. My society finches have also got a bunch of eggs in a food bowl they are all helping to incubate (I know they don't count but they are darn cute

There are forums on BYC for such birds so I don't see why not! really really cool!

I'm late to the game but I just set 22 eggs today which are hopefully future Olive Eggers or at least green egg layers. I have a F1 Olive Egger blue rooster in with my laying flock so it's really just a mash of mixed breeds to be adding to the layer flock. Fingers crossed for healthy hatchlings and lots of colorful laying pullets!

@Farmer Connie I really wanted to hatch some Call duck eggs for this HAL, but decided against it. Well it appears that my eldest duck hen may do it for me. So far she has 7 eggs, but she isn’t sitting full time yet. She is still collecting. I hope to add those to my list soon.

I had 3 of 4 babies hatch hatch today. 2 showgirls and 1 silkie. The one that hatched a week or so ago was a failure to thrive and didn't make it.
