Hatching quail eggs in a cup?

It sounds fine! Just definitely be prepared. Bacteria was the main killer. My chicken eggs made it to day 19 before dying from the bacteria. Where gloves if you touch them, and change the gloves between each egg. Bleach the incubator before starting, keep everything SUPER clean. And keep the humidity high, around 65% the whole time. What kind of incubator do you have? A still air incubator would probably work best. The fan in forced air incubators dries the embryos out fast. And, I highly reccomend starting them in the incubator intact for at least 5 days, or they won't have a good vein network. They formed really poorly and died in the first week when I opened them before setting them.

Thanks for the tips, and I'm going to be getting a cabinet still - air incubator with a turner hopefully.

So, my main question is, when you crack the egg, do you have to worry about getting all of the egg white out of the shell? I am assuming you do, how do you do that without contaminating the egg white with bacteria?

hmm, that's a good question. Guess I still have a lot of research to do

I put a hole in one end of the egg, and then pick pieces of shell off with tweezers until the hole is big enough to pour the egg yolk and white out.

No problem! Just scratch a hole on top with a pin to start the hole, and go slow.

Ps. Were did you get the info on the distilled water? What is it used for, (just curious, I have never done this before so can't offer much insight.)

I'm really excited to try it, it might take me a while though because we already have eggs in our incubator, and we want to wait till they hatch and grow up to try hatching anymore eggs
