One of our week-old French Black Copper Marans had Pasty Butt a few days ago, so naturally, we took care of it by running warm water over it's vent. We have done this several times before and it has worked, this time it didn't. The inside of this chick's vent has been clogged and it won't poop. What can we do to help it? If it helps it also had splayed leg a few days ago. It is a lot smaller than the rest of our Marans in the brooder, even though it is the same age. Thanks.

Oil. Preferably coconut oil since it's easiest to get into a squirmy chick.

Measure half a teaspoon and chill slightly. Shave off slivers and pry the beak open and slip them in, allowing the chick to close its beak and swallow each bite.

If the chick hasn't improved in a couple hours, give another half teaspoon of oil.
