I have a jumbo pekin duck who is 1 month old and isn't feeling well. We have 29 ducks in total (jumbo pekins, khaki campbells, cayugas). When we returned home on Sunday night, one of the jumbo's was unable to walk. She/he will swim in the pond if I bring her to it, but when I went back to check on her she was up on the bank while all her friends were swimming.

She is still unable to walk, her left eye was stuck shut a couple times this week, if I wipped it and opened it for her she would leave it open. She is eating and drinking, I am leaving water and food directly in front of her. I have put her in a smaller coop because her friends were stepping all over her. She also has loose, green poop.

I thought maybe a niacin deficiency, so I have been adding niacin to her diet for four days but haven't seen a difference yet.

Anyone have any help or advice??

*I do work for a vet who sees/treats ducks so I will be asking him tomorrow his opinion and if not any better after the weekend I will bring her in to be seen Monday.*

Thanks in advance!

Is the niacin flush free? How much are you giving her? What feed are they on? And lastly does she have any sores on her feet or swelling on her legs?:D

Yes I just realized it is flush free... that is the wrong kind from what I’ve read, correct? :th

They are on Dumour Chick Starter.

I don’t see any swelling or sores on her legs/feet. All the other ducks are still fine as well

I'd get an all flock feed like Purina Flock Raiser or if you have a lot of chick starter left you can mix the 2 and get Liquid B Complex at TSC In the cattle section it will say injectable but it's given orally to our birds. 1 ml a day Once you have used up all the chick starter then just keep on feeding the Flock raiser. But you may have to continue the Liquid b complex until you see your Pekin walking normal again. Once they have the problem they really need to B complex liquid. It can be expensive trying to switch feeds if you have quite a bit of chick starter left that is why I rec mixing till the chick starter is gone .

I am headed to TSC now!! I will get vitamin b from them and look for new feed!

We have ~40 chickens/guineas so I can save the chick starter for them.

I assume the all flock feed will be okay for a chicken too? I have a duck that lives with two chickens because of her injured leg so I’d like to make sure she is on the correct diet as well!
