How to convince my mom to let me get ducks

I again support the volunteer somewhere thing. You get the cuddles and the chores, then get to go home :)

Ditto^^

I (started) volunteering at local rehab centers and wildlife educational facilities. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to commit to the facilities like I planned due to unforeseen circumstances mentioned before, but I do think volunteering would be very satisfying!

I think we’re getting s little off topic with this vegetarian diet thing. Every person is different and we should all find diets that suit us. Humans in general have unspecialized dentition- meaning we can eat a varied diet, and that’s it. Meat or not. We are not “meant” to hunt and hold prey in our mouths- hence the lack of a diastema. However, we do synthesize proteins and nuts and eggs and even bugs can supply necessary ones for us. I personally decided to be a pescatarian- or an opportunistic vegetarian if you want to label it. I do not participate in the purchasing of meat as I do not morally agree with the mass production of raising an animal to kill it, however, I would rather eat meat if it is offered than let the animal die in vain and be thrown away. I do well with this diet, and meat actually upsets my stomach and digestion, it always has, even when I ate cheeseburgers and steaks often! Never gave it too much thought but found a pescatarian diet as a great compromise![/Quote
I totally agree!! Start a vegatarian thread if you HAVE to argue! :old
ok..sorry..i'm new here..I'll blame that, plus.. the kid mentioned vegetarianism and I'm easily distracted :p I said my piece anyway for sure.. Have a nice day all :)

I'd say make sure for the next month or two show her you are 100% responsible. All current chores done well and on time. No slacking. Do them early or more thorough if possible (good example is kitty litter. Maybe you only are required to scoop it once a week. Do it twice a week instead.)
If you can't keep on top of current responsibilities, than your not going to be on top of extra ones! Have a plan for what's going to happen when: 1-your at friends homes late 2-you go on a trip 3-you have after school events. etc etc.

I am in the same situation... I feel like my Dad might say yes one of these days but doubt my Mom... :/ I just keep showing her duckling photos and hope for the best. SO I am on your side and wish you the best of luck! Rooting for ya! :highfive:

Thanks for your sugguestions!Staying at my friends would kind of be more of a two step proccess....(First, I would need to have friends lol) But I understand.

Well then it's time to step out of your shell, get gut twisting nervous and say hello to someone. I usually have one good friend. I'm very introverted and it's SO hard for me to reach out and start conversation with someone. But after that initial "hello" is over, it feels really nice. Not everyone will click, but when you find that one person you can just talk to it's a wonderful gift. But it takes work. You can't make friends if you never try! Also people skills get you farther in life than almost anything else. Good luck.

Also, just a little $.02 - I wish my mother had not let me get a dog in highschool. When I moved out it was SO hard to find housing, and time to give my dog a good life. Hard on me and my sweet girl. Birds are even harder. Unless the ducks are going to be a FAMILY pet, I would suggest you wait.

I'm an ENFJ so it really is not all that hard for me. However, with doing online school at home and liimited friends at our weekly bible study program, they'res not too many people. But I have found that my Aunt and I get along very well and I enjjoy talking to her. So I guess she can be my bff even though she's a couple decades older than me! I do like talkign to her though, she is very wise, and that's something I like in having friends that are older than you. Anyways, I'm quite comitted to getting ducks and if I don't get them, I'd feel really depressed. I think I can handle the responsibility and factor in my future. Thanks for the help!

Could your aunt help you in same way with the ducks possibly? Promise to care for them when you are away or keep them at her home? Is she close by?

Yes and no. She's 20 miles away but still in the same county. I hardly think finding someone to watch my ducks while I'm away would pose a problem though. That was good thinking but I think I'll have to find someone closer because to travel 20 miles 2 times a day would really not be all that convienient on her part. Also, she and her husband rent a place and unfourtunately, she cannot have pets there.
