How to raise 1 day chicks in a coop without electricty and without broody hen.Any ideas?
the chicks like a feather duster and they can stay huddled under the feathers to use each others body heat.
Also, a hot water battle does really well when you think it’s too cool.
I raised my chicks in a brooder in the house.
If you'd update your profile to show location (at least the state or country) and tell us about your weather that would help provide an answer.
I cobbled together one during a power issue last year. It’s the top of a plastic linen basket for the frame - foil to retain heat and a couple of fleece tops. I cut a towel into strips and hung them from the linen basket frame
i reason why i m asking this is because i m not able to raise chicks indoors and i dont have broody hen as well and plus not even able to use those electric brooder for chicks as there is no electricty availible nearby.
UK wheather usualy only 1 or 2 months summer rest cloudy days.
Where in the UK are you that doesn't have an electricity supply?
I've had success using older chicks. 3 week old chicks, 2 3wk olds to 1 1day old. They all huddle as needed.
