Icelandic Chickens

Mary, final count is 2 chipmunks, 3 black, 4 yellow. Not a great turnout, but I've never had a broody hatch chicks. I suppose with practice, better accommodations, warmer weather?, etc, it would be better. I'm sure it wasn't the eggs. I'm going to candle them in a bit to see if I can tell when they quit. They are cute little boogers.

I have to keep the NN and the buff separated, they don't get along since becoming mommies. you can see the babies sneaking through the wire to get to their buddies for their play date.

They are very cute Bob. Just let me know if you want to try again. I have a couple of orders to fill and then I'll be caught up. They look so adorable with the Mommas. I am surprised with the sneaking back and forth they know who their Momma is!

Mary, you have so many beautiful birds, and thankfully, they passed on their good looks. I have to photograph them often to keep up with their rapidly changing coloration's.

We've had a break out of epic proportions.
I heard Broody Mama Ozzie having a bloody meltdown in the Silkie pen. Peeked in. She has 2 chicks with her. The Silkie Mix and the OE that hatched with the helo-raptors.
Not a helo-raptor in sight and no peeping, squalling frantic chick noises.

Holler for DH, DS and DD to come hunt for chicks.

A short time later, a little line of 6 fuzzy butts comes parading out from under our 10x16 outbuilding. Not a care, not a worry. Totally surrounded by Giant LF Wyandottes and BO's. They meandered up to the gate of the pen and looked around as if to say 'weeeelllll. is anyone going to let us back in?'

*sigh* We have now added about a million staples to the hardware cloth and stategically placed bricks and rocks in holes larger than a dime.

Its gonna be a long hatch season people....

Michelle........too cute! On Mullet, still could go either way, but if I had to guess right now, I'd say boy.

Bob......congrats! Looks like you have all the broodies and I don't have any.

Gotta love mama's and their babies.

Thanks all. They are pretty funny, running back and forth.

Mary, anytime you have excess, I'll be happy to take them. I really want to transition away from such a diverse mix of chickens, and with the Icelandics I still get a variety with only one breed, and I look forward to having them hatch and raise the babies themselves, freeing me from quite so much work.

Mary, I almost forgot, re: the dogs. I'm glad everything came out ok. If it were me however, given the number of dog attacks I've had, I skip the paintball/maker/warning stage.
