Hello all! My ducks are not being broody at all and I've finally decided to try and incubate them myself without an incubator. I've got an insulated lunch box, a heating bad, and some warm wet wash rags with an egg. My mom put the mallard egg we had in the fridge so I've been left with a large white egg. It was either laid by my black duck or my khaki duck, I'm not sure which. My flock is two male pekins, one male mallard, a male charcoal duck (probably a mixed breed), a female mallard, a female khaki duck, and a female black duck that's another mixed breed. I know the male/female ratio is off, we plan on getting more females at some point, but we were given these ducks when they were ducklings as a gift (a gift that we were completely unprepared for!) and didn't know anything about their genders. I'm a little disappointed that none of them are broody and, with winter coming, I can't leave the eggs outside and try the "sunlight method" I've seen around. The heating pad gets about 110-120, but with the heating pad being under the insulated lunch box, I highly doubt it'll reach that temperature. I don't imagine it'll get past 105. I'll be turning the egg and candling regularly, as well as keeping an eye on humidity with my rags. Is it normal for the duck egg to get a little bit of condensation on it? Should I wrap the egg in the rag? Any advice is very much appreciated! If I need to get a bulb I'll see what I can do about that too.
