ok at first glance I thought you said the only thing covered was your crack, and I was thinking "what???" lol my mistake!
2. you can borrow my vacumm sealer anytime, it's just a cheapie from walmart but does a GREAT job, gotta come here to get it though!
3. my processor uses a vaumm sealer and never wipes dry the birds, I think that might only matter more if you were not vacumm sealing.
4. Please DO NOT suck the air out of the bag with a raw chicken in it, with your mouth. I am sure that was said with all of the best intentions, and I am sure you know not to do that; but just in case a newbie is considering it DON'T!

5. If you would like to do a test hatch of my free ranging, sustainable meaties, I would be happy to mail you some!

before i had a food saver i tried to just wrap them in some saran wrap and then i put them in a freezer ziploc and tried to "manually" get as much air out. unfortunately in my experience i did get some freezer burn with that method.

now i just use the food saver

Edited in response to halo's question: It is MY experience (others may say differently) that the food saver is far and away MUCH better than ziplocs. That said...I do "dry" my birds to ensure a proper seal w/o having to double seal as some do (see earlier posts discussing "drying"). As others have mentioned, when taking their birds to a processor they never dry them. This may be attributed to having a much more proficient commercial sealer. I dunno.. either way I'm not risking it on my home sealer. I want that thing to last since I spent the money on it.

So whats the general consensus, are zip lock bags as good as a food sealer?

Yes Dh and I made it ! took less than an hour too---I wish my camera didnt malfunction as I have all the photos and all stupid camera-but I followed the directions for the thread that said you can make a wizzbanger for 6$-Mine was free since I hade all the stuff at my house. It needs more fingers to it but we had to make due since we ran out of black rubber bungi cords-with the s curved hooks on ends?? It has 12 fingers -not much compared to 50-100 of them but it worked and was great-
