january hatch-a-long

Pics
just finished my day 9 candling. I had hubby help this time for fresh eyes! Same 5 that I had pushed aside as infertile or non-developers he agreed plus 1 more he thought suspicious. then there was the 1 I dropped! no visible damage so hopefully won’t be a quitter! will probably kick out the 5 at lockdown and run the other 2 through. (note to self and others: when labeling eggs using alphabet, make sure to underscore letters that look same! M and W are both in the dud pile but otherwise I wouldn’t know which is which)
Dropped?. Did you poop your pants when you dropped it?

yup! pretty much....and of course a huge argument ensued between hubby and me because he blamed me for trying to use both hands to give him one to candle while putting one back in place and I blamed him for not being clear about the status of the egg he just candled!:he:barnie

i’m excited!! i love duckies, but unfortunately that’s one i can’t currently add to my flock so i just have to admire others!!

I have not tested fertility in these yet. The layers are young, these are early eggs, and it’s a bit early for breeding season, but I have 3 customers begging me for ducklings, so I set some. I’ll set more next week, and probably continue for a while!

Hoping to join in the fun. I just set my first ever eggs. We have 7 chickens that we purchased as day-old chicks. Now we are trying our hand at hatching quail.
So far nothing too exciting. I let the eggs settle for about 36 hours before setting them. I chose to continue the settling process by not turning on the rotator for the next 24 hours (1st day of incubation). I then turned on the turner and I feel like my work is done for now... I just check the humidity and temp a few times each day. I'm excited for the outcome, but I'm itching to do something and there's nothing to do - so I surf BYC a lot. :)

Don't feel too bad. I would have 1 more quail egg, but I put my finger right through the shell of an egg as I tried pushing it out of the foam mat they shipped in. I ended up cooking that egg for the dogs, and I now have 103 instead of 104 - although I only ordered 100.
