We went ahead and candled tonight, basically since we had more time tonight than tomorrow (it's the 18th day tomorrow). Sadly, I'm not thinking we have any but 1 chick. But i could be totally wrong. We're just crossing fingers and hoping for the very best. I've already told dd if they don't hatch, we'll get some more. It will be a bit depressing because it will be her birthday on hatching day...

I added lots of water to get the humidity to start rising (it went down to 28 overnight.) We're up to 72%. But now the temp is not rising above 94. I find that weird, when you add water, the temp changes. Need to study up on humidity I guess. Turned up the thermostat to compensate. I want to get it all right, then we'll lockdown tonight.

I'm so glad I joined this thread with you. For some reason I was thinking Wednesday was lockdown and it's tonight! I ended up with 13 eggs that developed. I was a little iffy on a couple so I'll candle them before lockdown. I think it may be all the adrenaline that makes this addicting. Maybe we should take up some extreme sport instead LOL.

I am a bit worried here...we are having a heat wave believe it or not we are having to cool our incubators to keep them at 100 it is 110 here in the shade and going up supposed to peak at 115 mid week....we are putting sprinklers on the chicken pens outside....trying to cool them off a bit...

We have our incubator inside, so no need to cool.

Okay, this is it. Adding more water, uppping the temp a bit, candling again. and LOCKDOWN.

Anyone have any hatchings yet? I've already had to open my incubator to throw more water jars in. I filled 2 up, and the humidity went to 72% but this evening it was down to 58%!! I put in 2 more jars. If that doesn't work, I don't know what will...

The eggs are curiously quiet and no movement...

Nothing yet. My last two hatches have all started on day 19. I think these chicks like messing with our heads ;-)

I'm wondering if anyone breaks protocol and candles during lockdown? My eggs are very quiet, not moving, no pipping. Tomorrow is 21 days...
