July 2022 Hatch-A-Long

Pics
Ya got more baby pics u can share with us still waiting this weekend?!
Only a few! Just have these two Littles left with Himawari. Eight days old today. The others all went to new homes. Waiting to move them out to a separate area in the coop.
My daughter has named them Kai, the blue one and Luna, the paint.
Kai is the lightest blue I’ve hatched so far. I’ve been waiting for a chick like this in this color. I’ve had some that were almost as light before but they either didn’t have the correct feathering or correct toes or had a vaulted skull or they were beardless. This is the first one that has checked all the boxes.🥰

Yeah my incubator s are too small for that...thank you for pics though!
You're welcome :) Gave me an excuse to show them off anyways, lol. I'm very proud of them cuz I've wanted some for ages but never found any I liked enough to get. I think they're gonna work great!

Oh my! Candling at lockdown plans canceled.

I have two early birds -- egg #2 and egg #17 have externally pipped. They aren't due until Sunday!

I picked an egg up to put it into the carton to carry it to my closet and heard it cheeping.

I looked more carefully at all of them and found another also pipped.

Chicks in a hurry!

I was told that for my Australorps I should aim at the darkest possible blue with good lacing but I couldn't resist keeping a beautiful, pale girl that I call Silver. It's such a lovely color -- as nice as lavender but without the feather-quality issues.

I'm going to be setting a broody over this weekend -- moving her to the maternity ward tonight and probably giving her eggs Sunday.

Planning on giving her half Australorp eggs and half mixed breed eggs -- but have to figure out how many is reasonable for a first-time broody to take care of.
