July 2022 Hatch-A-Long

I have tried, yes, but it seems to already have turned into basically concrete. It was already pretty hard when I helped her yesterday. I put neosporin on it, but it may have been too dried out already to make much difference. I think I'm gonna try giving her a bath in some warm running water and try to get her the rest of the way out. I'm also gonna help the other baby finish zipping. Will probably help the pipped baby first so she doesn't get even more stuck when I open the bayor. Wish me luck!
Keep us posted!

I really hope it goes well for both of them. 🤞 ❤️

SUCCESS!!! Both are fully out of their shells now. The pipped baby seems just fine, her head was stuck to the membrane which is why she couldn't finish zipping. Perfectly healthy looking baby.
The bottom shell baby...well, she's got a weirdly large stomach. It looks strangely yellowish and swollen. She almost looks incapable of holding that thing up! Is there something wrong here or amni being paranoid?

Also, omg guys. I quit smoking months ago because my 12 yr old asked me to (she saw pics of smoker's lungs in school 🤭) and I vape now, but man oh man if that whole process didn't make me want a cigarette! Whoo! Stressful as heck!
Yeah it is stressful! But glad they r both out...keep em warm n resting and maybe that one will perk up with the big belly. I've not ever had one similar so unsure.

Oh, they get to rest as long as they need, they were such good babies and little troopers while I was getting them out. Both seem strong as far as still being vocal and all. Just laying there on their backs and sides though...so pooped, lol. I'll update when they're up and about and fluffy.

My guess would be her struggles have very little to do with being stuck to the egg. She was probably stuck in the egg because she failed to zip in a timely manner (weak chick, congenital defect) and humidity may have been a bit high for her individual egg (even though everyone else hatched fine).

I hope she’s already on the mend. Have you given any poultry electrolytes or Nutridrench? That, and keeping her in the incubator, are some of the only things you can do for her at this point.

I’m sorry this hatch wasn’t as straightforward as we all hope for. She’ll need some continued assistance but at least she’s out of the egg and has a shot. Hopefully by the time I post this she’s already feeling a bit better. 🤞 :hugs

So now I'm thinking they may both need a real bath with a little soap. They still look wet but it has to be dry by now. I'm thinking they've got so much sticky on them it's not gonna let them get fluffy on their own. So, do we think it's a good idea to wash them and try to get some of the "glue" off?
ETA: The slightly stronger baby is starting to move around a bit. I think she's finally recovering some. The other is still just laying there. Idk if she's gonna make it. She still seems so stiff....
