Kristen’s Chickens and Farming Ventures

Is Andrew oblivious to his father's(?) sabotage of your work?
No, he is quite aware, and understanding... I was just very, very upset by it all. He felt I was upset at him about it. I did not react well to seeing all my work torn up. And I won’t be paying for the “work” that was done in tearing it all up. That was two days of cutting, measuring, and taping it all up to meet the building inspectors requirements. In a biting cold wind that didn’t making handling giant sheets of plastic easy or fun at all.

I will not be re-doing anything. I am secretly hoping that the concrete arrives and gets poured today while we are in town.

Turns out I should have been secretly hoping to win the lottery... we were just sitting down to a McDonalds breakfast when Andrew got a message about the concrete... it would have been done today, if only FIL would have just bothered to answer his phone. And I will most likely be redoing it all tomorrow morning with Andrew. FFS!

@Kris5902 You put up with way more out of your FIL than I would have been able to. I would have found a way to leave.

I’ve gotten too attached to the chickens... and I plan on outliving him, or winning the lottery and buying my own hobby farm (one of those is more likely than the other!). I know that sounds just awful... but I’m trying to focus on my long term goals, seeing as all the 3-10 year ones seem to have imploded so spectacularly. When the property is less in-law heavy there will be the opportunity for some changes to husbandry practices. Until then I’m going to practice my patience and avoidance techniques.

Sounds like the concrete is coming tomorrow at 10am... hopefully I have a good update for you all by end of day.

Precious seems to have done ok today, despite all the missing feathers and short rations. I’m going to have some very happy chickens tomorrow when they go back to their regular (higher protein) brand of feed. The feed store again suggested I buy a full pallet, saving a buck a bag, and they even store it there for you. I’m definitely game for that come spring and meat bird season... or as soon as I have enough spare cash on hand.

Hmmm that's good of them. I wonder if their goodness stretches to a payment scheme?
