If you cross the hens from the cuckoo x red back to a red rooster, you will get sexlinks because of the sexlinked barring that the hens have. It will give you mostly barred sons and red daughters from that.

correct.. a F1 cuckoo looking rooster needs to breed back to BBR rooster..

I have a large fowl Silver Crele Marans project. I chose the hand that was presented to me.
I have this Silver Duckwing pullet which is 50% Marans.


Just got 2 eggs from her


Also was given from Dick Dickerson a Cuckoo Marans cockerel with the barring I like.


Here is the parent stock of my Silver Duckwing pullet, in the back left corner you can see the mother. She looks like a Lemon Blue Ameraucana but is also a mix of pure Blue Splash Orp & father who is Buff Orp and Meyers Hatchery's version of what a Jersey Giant looks like. Which is a mutt Black cock.
The son is pure Marans.

You have all you need within Marans - Silver Cuckoos for barring and silver gene, Golden Salmon Marans for the duckwing part of creles.

Well I just have time now to look over this thread & get involved in a Crele project.
It was kinda laid in my lap even though I was after the whole project for 2 years now.

This is Crele Chantecler.









This is Phoenix.and Phoenix has now been culled by his ex-owners as he was meaner than snake snot.
Before he was culled, I managed to talk the owners into hatching 4 eggs from him, over Partridge pullets, and the result is 2 partridge & 1 crele chick.
I believe by wing feather sexing that the 2 Partridge are a pullet & a cockerel & the crele chick to be a pullet....time will tell.
This crele bird came about as a sport from a complete Partridge line of Chanties.
The original breeder did not want him at all..brought him to a show, and both I and my friend fell in love with him.
She got the bird, free, I missed the giveaway..but after Phoenix grew & became mean, she culled him & hatched the 4 eggs.
So, now where to go from here ? It is dizzying to think of.
Illia is aware of this on going project...I think she may remember anyways I will be back & join in conversations when I can...spring is a busy time here, and summer when we start building our house will be even busier !

You have all you need within Marans - Silver Cuckoos for barring and silver gene, Golden Salmon Marans for the duckwing part of creles.

X2 you are in fact diluting your egg color this way !

These are good Silver Cuckoo Marans, French.
They have barring on tail as well as body.
The one in posts above has no tail barring.

I use what I have. I like the type of barring on my cockerel even though he maybe only having one Cuckoo gene. He will do for my project. By summers end we will know how well this pairing is for making Silver Creles

Ok I respect that, even though he has no tail barring...and he is short backed and not good type, the large amount of white on the tail is another issue.

This bird was "FREE" from Dick Dickerson. I got him for the type of barring he has. He has clearer and more defined barring not muttled barring like yours. Speaking of type what is up with the bird in your AVATAR?

What do you mean what is up with my avatar bird ?
He is exhibition Black Java cockerel, a perfect specimen.
I like your coloring on your free Cuckoo bird, never seen one with the 1 gene as you said...it is rather a pretty coloration.
Anyways, I am learning how to proceed with the Crele project with the above Chantecler...and have found he is a sport from Pure partridge Chantie breeding, so he is a e-locus gene and no BBR so now I have to get some BBR in him....

I actually do not have the cockerel shown above (the chantie) he was culled for being a man hater, but before cull he was bred to some very nice Partridge pullets & we got 3 eggs to hatch before Phenix the Chantecler's head came off.
So how to proceed with the breeding program with the 3 chicks is my issue now.
What to do, what to do...and like you said, what to do with what I have is the issue??
