Hi! I am new to this community and to raising backyard chickens. I am in upstate NY in the Albany capital district/ southeastern Adirondacks.

We currently have two Red Star (hybrid) hens for egg laying purposes and as pets. Our coop is large enough to add one or two more hens. I would love any breed that is hardy enough for cold upstate NY winters, who are friendly and enjoy human interaction, and who have a decent egg output (does not have to be the most prolific). I would like to branch out from the breed we already have.

I am looking for juvenile hens just entering the egg laying stage. I am not equipped to raise baby chicks.

Anywhere within a 70 mile radius of Amsterdam, NY would be great as far as convenience (including western Mass and southwest VT). We prefer to pick the chickens up.

Thank you in advance!!

Are you still looking? I’m in Greenwich, NY and we have some extra pullets (Feb chicks) that should be starting to lay soon.
