LPHF Blue Australorps Hatching Thread

You too. Get one!

I've been trying to research them. Trying to see which ones have good reviews that isn't too expensive. Do we want the built in humidity and temperature thermometer thingies? I know you pay for that but....if we have the ability to pay for the convenience of it should we? These are the type of questions we are asking ourselves. I started looking through the various incubators that people had reviewed here on this website and some of them have been discontinued or aren't sold anymore. Like I said, just have been trying to research. Probably overthinking everything LOL!

I don’t have a scale that would work  we only have a stand on scale

You can find decent scales at Walmart that aren't expensive. I think that is where we got ours. It is digital and does grams, fluid oz, lb & oz and ml. I think it was less than $20 but it's been a minute since we bought it so I don't fully remember. I am sure that if you plan on using it for animals that you may not want all of those options but they may have others. Look on their website and see if anything catches your eye. Idk, may be worth checking out.

So far we have at least 4 babies that already have pin feathers and baby wing feathers coming in! Hoping that means girls :fl

Biggie is still doing okay! It’s so big, I hope it’s a girl so I can use it for a layer. It might be my favorite already.

Would weekly update pictures be a good idea? I’m guessing the answer will be yes. ;)

Heck yes!

Below is our guesses of what gender they are going to be based on the rate of growth of their feathers. My mother and I couldn’t agree on orange band being a boy or girl. I said boy.

We don’t have a yellow expo, so deal with it being in red.

Would be a nice hatch ratio if it turns out to be correct yes? Only getting 2 boys out of the 7.

Super nice! We’d probably retain one of the boys if that happened unless someone wanted one.

I doubt this is the right ratio though. So far we’ve had a perfect 50/50 split each time.

They love their dirt box.

We had an issue with a couple of them having pasty butts, but when we transitioned over to the shavings and dirt box from the paper towels that issue has disappeared. :)

Everyone looks about the same as far as feather wise so it’s not looking like it will be accurate. It’s also hard for me to get individual pictures since it’s just me doing it so group pictures is all I can get.

Too hot can cause pasty butt too so next time think about lowering the brooder temp some.
