Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

Warden, Henhouse Bob better get his butt in gear and get another coop and Arizona room built then.

KathyinMo, yes, Jayne is a he. That was his name when I got him, I'm guessing he was named before his sexual orientation was determined.

Kinda reminds me of the old Johnny Cash classic : " How do you do ? My roo's name's Sue " .

SteveH, and that comparison is more accurate than you'd believe. "Rolling in the mud and the blood and the beer" The only thing missing was the beer when I tried to introduce him to the flock. Several got a little scratched up, but everyone is ok.

Kathyinmo, That's not too far off from what my coop looks like. I didn't build it up off the ground though, and didn't use breezeboards, but that's a good idea for the next one. Probably wouldn't hurt to pull a few the old coop and put in hardware cloth. I have an evap cooler for when it's hot or at least warmish, for cooling and fresh air, and a solar powered attic fan hooked up to a car battery to run off the panel during the day and battery at night for fresh air. There is a LOT of fine tuning I could/need to do on the coop. Plus finish trim, etc..

HappyChooks, Very nice coop. I just got a bit further down the page. Very nicely built. Mine is just thrown together. LOL Looks similar, but not the same.

I recently went through that with a new addittion , and thought I was going to loose my new Ameraucana before he ever had a chance at reproducing for me . I really didn't think those Ameraucanas would tussle that bad .

I have several breeds. Of ALL of them, the ones I like the least are the Ameraucanas. I don't know why, no specifics, but I just don't really care if I have them or not.

*Hmmm, maybe it is because I am getting ZERO blue eggs at the moment.*

How old and what variety ?
Maybe you just need to explain to them you never eat eggs , you just want to incubate them

I have Blue and Black. 2 of them are old enough to lay, because they WERE laying ..... for about 3 weeks. Then I moved everyone around (stressing them, of course) into different pens. BUT, that has been over a month ago! There are 2 roos and 6 pullets in one pen. Is that a problem, ya think? The youngest ones are 7 months old.

I am telling you, dang crazy chickens get stressed over ANYTHING ! ! I just put new heated waterers in each pen, and this has now stressed them. My Gawd, what next??? I hate to even clean out their pens ..... because THAT stresses them, too! "OH no," they say, "don't make any changes at all !"

My B/B/S have been slow to start laying , only one out of six at over six months , and not sure she continued as one of my EEs lays a blue egg also . Like you I moved them and their nest boxes and while some of the even older pullets in the other breeds are just getting started this week , the blues and greens slowed just a bit . I guess , compared to yours , I better not complain about mine .

Nite all , its been fun , and hope you all are doing good with the bators !
