Is that the same as vetericyn? Have you had any expierience with injectable penicillin? Is there any over the counter vitamins I should be giving him while he's cooped up? I looked at tsc when I bought the blu-kote and only saw like the three day package you buy when the ducks and chickens and brand new. Like anything otc at Walgreens I can pick up and mash in his food? He does get niacin from the brewers yeast.. I haven't really given it to him for a while as I was trying to concentrate on his injuries but I think I'm going to start upping that again.

Not really...Extra things he is not used too might get him off his feed?....They can be picky....Peas are great...Dandelion leaves...You do not need a vitamin supplement being its his foot ...Getting fat is not helpful on an injured leg...

Thank you I will try peas. I'm sure he'd love them! I used blu-kote about two days after the turtle attack. He didn't squirm when I put it on, just when he needs to be readjusted.

I have never used Blue-kote on Ducks, ever....
Have on Chickens...It is uses more on larger livestock..Was created so you can see animals being treated...Never studied of the effects to poultry .....I do not have pecking issues in my Chickens so no longer use it...Good for sheep and other livestock...It burns when applied to wounds...

My babies loved peas right away and is probably their favorite thing next to blueberries now. Just put them in a bowl of water and he will enjoy them.

Look at it this way... if you had a similar injury on your foot, how would you treat it if you couldn't go to a doctor? Would you soak it daily, or would you clean it really well and wrap it daily?

X2

I have read about leaving it open and not wrapping it to let the wound get some air.. he wiggles sometimes when I put the blu-kote on and gets it everywhere hence why in some pictures he looks like a polka dot.

True, but now the foot is swelling... oral antibiotic can only do so much though...

This is the point *I believe* Kathy was trying to make... IF the swelling is being caused by an infection, then that will need to be cleaned out thoroughly/manually pulled out as poultry infections/pus goes hard and cheesy rather than liquid pus... and if the chunk/s are not removed, even with an oral antibiotic, then the wound will not heal properly or at all...

Tractor supply has both that you're looking for. Can someone tell me the times you'd use vetericyn, or blu-kote? I thought it was dangerous to use on deeper wounds?

I've had to give injectable calcium before, not penicillin though.

I do and would use Veterycin on any injury... blu kote, I do not use... it was designed to hide the red of a raw wound to discourage others picking at the wound site... I isolate all my wounded, so have never used it... Veterycin and clear iodine are my go to's for wounds/infections, especially with ducks...
