I see nothing wrong with her color, this is not considered straw color.

I do see a slipped and twisted wing though.

That's what the weird feathers are....I swear. You'd think I would learn. OK, Don...should I still get another rooster to work with these pullets, or start over since two of these pullets have slipped wings and now one twisted?

If it were me I would find a different blood splash male and use these Blue copper pullets one time and then keep pullets and males that did not have the fault. No way can you use the male they are hatched from if you want to improve the young.

Excellent advice, Don. Myself, all I am after is the darkest eggs in the neighborhood...and I have achieved that.

OK...I will find one. Thank you, very much, for the advice Don.

I have a blue cuckoo roo with 2 blue hens, they really light eggs as far as maran eggs go though.. I got them as a gift from a friend who breeds them and is a vet.
SOme one said that IF they lay lighter than the chart of maran egg color that is accepted, they aren't Marans...
My girls lay one that is about hot chocolate colored with white spots.. sometimes darker spots.

Finally I have a Marans! She is a cute little BCM about 3 months old. We have had her a bit, but finally got some pictures. Instead of 2 marans, we got a marans and a barnevelder.

......I have to go to work today so I don't get to stay home and watch them. All 6 Barnie eggs had good movement day 18...the Marans eggs looked good but they are dark and I couldn't see movement.

Hoping to day they do something.

I have three cuckoo marans that are about 4 weeks old. I also just hatched out four black copper marans yesterday - with hopefully at least one more on the way! When I have some time I'm going to enjoy looking through this thread and learning more about the breed.
