Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

My little ones, I took out of the Bator this evening. Looks like two Splash Marans one with feathers and another without. One FBCM with feathers, RIR, Assie baby. I lost the parents to a coon here awhile back.

Thank you VIVI

My young pullets are in a contest to lay eggs I think, I collected 19 eggs yesterday, in the middle of November. That is craziness! I want to also get some photos of some of my young ones to see what you think. I am very excited about hatching season and depending on the weather, might do the new year's day hatch finally. I don't think I can wait all that long to start the test mating haha

Hi Everybody! *Waves*

Welcome to all the new Marans peeps joining the thread!

Chefswifey~ Hi Lady! Good to see that you found the thread. Lots and lots of great folks 'round here.
Congrats on your new roo.......... it looks like he has yellow legs, does he? If he does then he will probably work out best for your olive egg project that we spoke about the other day on the phone.

VIVI~ The chicks are adorable! Congrats! Oh and in answer to your question...no she does not have birds from me that I know of, unless she got them from someone else by the by.

I put just over 4 dozen eggs in the bator a couple weeks ago and upon candling the other morning I removed 2 dozen clears....darn it. They rest are set for hatch on Monday.

Hi!!!!!! Finally the last couple of times I have attempted to log in, it let me! Wooooooowhoooo!

I think I might do the NYD hatch as well as 1 of my 2 young splash copper pullets has started to lay. Nice little egg. but not what I hoped for. She has only given 2 so there is still hope for it getting a bit darker. Now to catch who is laying it, I think it is Roberta. Oxanna I believe is still hanging onto her eggs for a rainy day, LOLOL, by all rights she have laid it yesterday after the drencher day we had around here.

Would love to see your birdies. I must get some photos of the Birchen boys for you.

I hear ya on trying to figure out who is laying what. I go down to the pens several times a day when I can and see if I can catch them on the nest, but so far I only know one girl's eggs. I'm trying to decide who to put Luella with first. I have Geronimo, Gigantor, Big Boy, my Alternate Roo, The alternate roo's son- a lighter BCM and a young Blue Copper with really nice coloring. I would like to try her on all 6 boys thru the course of hatching season. I was thinking of collecting about 18 eggs per mating and then hoping for a at least a dozen to hatch and watch them develop and see what they come out like, as far as attributes.

Oh..forgot to wish you luck with all the eggs from the show! Good luck!

All of my older birds have stopped laying again. Must have been the switch up in coops and roosters that made them dry up. :/
