Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I was hoping to stay up with you guys for a while longer, but can't seem to do anything other than nod off when reading. long, long day and its currently raining, so its relaxing to know things are finally getting some water. I'm off to bed, hopefully I'll have a productive day tomorrow.

forgive my very newbie question - what color is splash?

Splash in a solid colored bird would look silvery grey with a couple feathers here and there that are blue.
Vicki just posted a totally gorgeous splash roo of hers

Splash Wheaten in a roo would look much the same way
Splash Wheaten female would look mostly wheaten (buff) with some greyish showing on the tail

hmm - ask your doc if you can try a prescription of Naproxen
it's the same stuff in Aleeve, but comes in different (and greater) doses

maybe the inactive ingredients would be different??
It could be just as simple as the dyes used - a friend of mine can't take the pink Benadryl, but can take the clear version - it's just the red food coloring that's the problem for her.

That would be wonderful for you!

Maybe he can give you a sample to try?? (and some antihist just in case!!)

My sister (also has RA) says Celebrex is the best thing since sliced bread for her - for me, it would be plain old Ibuprofen, but I need it in such high amounts that my liver can't handle it....so I take Etodolac
No doc here, I don't care for them much at all. They are up there on my "not good" list with lawyers and politicians! I have tried that in the past, but I saw no difference in it than I do my plain old aspirin. And the aspirin is good for your heart/blood. I even try to limit it until I just can't stand it any more. Some days are much better than others, and I need nothing. Bad days, I try to limit myself to 3 doses a day.

Yeah, no thanks. I've been through AZ many times, and I lived in the High Desert in CA. I like my greenage!!

I can tell you half a day before a storm is coming. And they thought that was an old wive's tale. Old wives are WISE I say!!

or not-so-old wives!
I start suffering the day beforehand, usually waking up with a banging headache ....so TWO days are wasted! argh!

oh yeah - forgot to add - totally agree on the desert thing....I live up in the mountains and would miss it terribly!

Have a great night, Vicki!!

WIth all my injuries from horses, the ortho said arthritis at the point of injury was a given. Didn't really like to hear that! THen one day I was talking to a friend with rhumatoid arthritis. At the time she was doing weight watchers to loose a few pounds and I was doing Atkins to loose a few more than a few. When she was on WW, she didn't need her once a week meds to manage the pain. When she goes back to her typical AMerican diet , she takes the pills again. Very enlightening observation on her part.

Try reducing the carb intake to a very low level for 2 weeks and see if the pain due to inflammation is reduced or eliminated. Most doctors don't know that the carbs in our diet have an inflammatory effect; and when the body is already fighting joint damage or injury the pain is much greater. Not all carbs are created equal.

If you are willing to give it a try, you need to eliminate a lot of foods we all usually eat, and replace with 3 cups of vegies in a day. Eat the low carb types: green beans, asparagus, lettuces, salads, etc. If someone wants a more pain free life with less meds, I can expand on this diet.

Please do tell more about this diet. I have psoriatic arthritis (causes the same type of inflammation and damage as rheumatoid, but with the added "pleasure" of psoriasis flares

) and am looking for anything that will help with that.

Quote: We can start another thread if need be ,don't want to hijack this one. though the path is a winding one on this thread! LOL

You need to learn the carb count on all the foods you eat. Meats and fish count as zero, but no breadings allowed. So you can fill up on meats. Eliminte all breads and pastas and starchy foods. SO focus on having green leafy vegies, a few berries and a few nuts. Keep the count under 100 carbs for a day and try this for 14 days and see how you feel. No sugar either. Watch yogurts--only plain or add splenda. CHeese is ok too but it has carbs, so count it. Salad dressings--read the label as some are full of sugar at 6 carbs per serving, othershave just 1-2.

We do not require carbs to live. Bet you have never heard that one!! Carbs are not an essential nutrient. Poteins, fats, vitamins and minerals and water are essential nutrients.

I'm trying to keep it simple. It's like talking chickens. I'm trying to keep it at the newbie level. LOL
