MAY Hatch-Along!!!! Let's do this!!!

12 eggs went into lockdown today. We're expecting a hatch on Wednesday.

Started with 18. Three turned out to be infertile and we've lost three more along the way. The rest were looking good when candled yesterday and most can be seen wobbling a bit if we watch long enough.

The possible fathers are a black Swedish and a blue Swedish and the possible mothers are black Swedish, buff, or golden 300s.

This will be our first hatch with ducks, so we're crossing our fingers.

7 Little Calls go in lockdown tomorrow along with 6 Lavender Orps, 10 BYM, and 1 Mixed Banty from my Girls.

So far, I've had the following hatch:
2 Silkies
1 Mottled Houdan
2 Ameraucanas
6 Lemon Cuckoo Orps

The following go in lockdown next week:
1 Indian Runner
2 Saxonies
1 Black East Indie
1 Mixed Banty from my Girls
3 Silkies from my new Girls (testing fertility)

I just can't believe how time flies! We go in to lockdown on the 9th, just 6 days away, and hatch day is the 12th! We are down by 3 more eggs this evening and I think this will be the last candling, for a while anyway. Here's hoping the remaining 11 eggs will yield good results.

She is back on them. The hard part is in about a week. I think what I'll have to do is to take her and the nest to the new house, put the eggs in the incubator and give her some infertile ones, and when I am sure that she will lay on them in the new house, I'll give them back. Of course then I have to repeat all of this with my other broody....

The things we do for our critters right? It'll all pay off if you end up with little ducklings running around.. What breed are your broodies, again?

Well, she got off of them again. Maybe she's not going broody... The one that is laying on them right now is a cayuga and the other is a pekin (who went broody last year).

Also, problem solved. We have this house until the end of the month so I won't have to move her
