Next up is Edith. She’s a Welsummer, and I think her feathering and face shape are just beautiful. She had better be a girl, because I cleaned her poopy butt so many times!!! She has the most pronounced, reddest comb out of my whole flock. She’s fairly skittish too. Loves to roost. Squares up with the others quite a bit.View attachment 3110880
Day 1

A lot of comb and wattle for being so young. Almost certainly a cock.

Next is Sybil, one of my two Speckled Sussex. She has always been much bigger than her sister, and she’s a more reddish mahogany color rather than her sister’s light chestnut coloring. Now her hackle feathers are coming in and making me nervous. From what I’ve read, though, SSs are hard to sex.

Here’s my other SS, Gwen. She’s one of my two favorites, very sweet. She’s never given me roo vibes but what do I know. She is more white on the chest than Sybil, and overall lighter in color. Spunky, curious and likes to fly out of the brooder and perch on your hand.

My very favorite baby, my Light Brahma miss Sadie Hawkins. She is so sweet and chirps to be picked up. She has never felt like a roo to me and I’d be so sad if I had to part with her. Docile, adorable, super soft little sweetheart.

Both are pullets so far.

Winnie! She’s a blue egg layer (EE or WTB). She’s a fun one, very spunky. Hope she’s not a boy, though I haven’t been too worried (I hope??). One of my bigger chicks. She had a white spot on her head as a baby and is coming in sort of barred/laced.
