Mild rant thread -"This is not the time or place"

I am posting this mainly so that I can take out my frustration in a manner that can be discussed if desired and not be considered inappropriate (I hope. I am making an effort to not break any forum rules)
All I wish to say, with extreme clarity intended, is that this is not the time or place to be taking apart other people based on their religion. I have been picking up nasty and, frankly offensive comments and posts both public and private for the last 2 and a half days regarding religion. People are bantering about it when not appropriate and I have had enough of my opinion and other's being denounced like fiction because we do not follow one set of beliefs.
Please, just leave your religious talk out of this site.

I have seen this many times on this site with religion as well, including just a minute ago. For people that feel strongly about it, it's hard for them to abstain from the conversation. We all must strive to only offer comments that are useful to the OP and their question on any topic and refrain from getting off topic and arguing with each other. The private conversation option on this site is great for those who meet on a thread and wish to continue to discuss something that is a bit off topic to the original post.

Hmm... just gave myself an idea. @Cyprus perhaps any time we see this begin to happen in a thread we give the posters a brief tutorial on how to use the private conversation feature on this site and ask them to take their conversation there, perhaps even tag a moderator so they can clean up the thread if it's gotten bad enough.

I looked through the tutorial/guide section of the website to see if there is already a "how to" for this that we could just link, but I could not find one. It's not that their opinions/discussions aren't valid, but the often distract from the original question and the OP is no longer getting useful advice.

I've read the rules and have already reported the user. Some of their posts have been deleted.
I am just voicing my frustrations at the users who insist on bringing their books and statements related onto this site.
